For the Mexicans the Day of the Death is one of the most important days of the year. That´s why they decorate their relatives tombs with such care and love, they believe that in that day the souls of the love ones return to earth to be with them to drink, eat and remember the good times. I believe that is a beautiful ritual, very positive and a comforting tradition.

There are also open altars in the houses of the city to visit, they are very proud of the decoration and want to show it to the visitors.

This picture shows an old image of Janitzio. In the middle of the island is located a tall (40 metres) statue of Jose Maria Morelos the hero of Mexican Independence.

I couldn´t explain the celebration, all the cemetery is beautifully decorated with flowers and candles, very quiet just rumors of people walking along the place watching the tombs; and just beside it the whole city is a party, with Mariachi music and people eating and drinking Tequilas....Weird.

There are boats leaving the Patzcuaro pier to Janitzio every 15 minutes all night long. The cruise takes about an hour and be prepared it can be very cold.
