Alta Vista Archeological Site
Huichol Indians at the Archeological site of Alta Vista or “La Pila del Rey” (The Kings Fountain). Located along the Las Piletas Creek, on the sides of the El Copo volcano. Not the largest but most complex site of its type in Nayarit. Ninety engraved rocks dating back 2000 years cover this sacred area and in pre-Hispanic times, was considered a sanctuary of the American Indian group Tecoxquin. To this day, local Mestizos as well as Huichol Indians still worship in this area.Be careful what you can honestly do. Not a long hike but the weather is hot and humid and the walk goes down into the jungle so it is enveloping. Bring extra water and know that you have to come back the same distance. If you need to turn around do it.
