Tourist Information office (Subsecretaria de Turismo, Modulo de Informacion Turistica)
Located behind the Presidencia Municipal (right side, looking at Presidencia) this place had a surprisingly well- prepared and highly motivated staff. Brochures, maps, suggestions on what to see and do in the city and in the area. If you hhave showed up in a city looking for info., and found the Tourism offices closed one too many times - i suggest you go here first. You'll be pleasantly surprised.

if you are looking for something fancy, I might suggest a different place. This restaurent is a very blue collar but what it lacks in decor, it more than makes up in quality food. The store itself is about a half city square block long and always filled with people.

Favorite Dish: I highly suggest the chicken soup, the restaurent is famous for it.

    for 2 people I spent 60 pesos.
    super cheap!

it is located outside the main Cathedral, look for the long of Huichol Indians selling their goods. There is a woman at the very end of the long line that sells natural medacines. She always has a few containers of the special cream.

What to buy: If you are suffering from Arthritis, the Huichol Indians make a special cream from the Peyote cactus that is amazing for arthritis.

I have seen the cream for sale outside the main cathedral. You will pay $4US per container and they last a long time.

My mom has crippling arthritis and the medication that her doctor prescribed was not as affective as it once was, so I had her try some of the cream. I am now happy to say that when she uses the cream her pain all but goes away.

You might be hesitant to use it because it comes from a peyote cactus, but no need to fret, it will not get you high. The peyote cactus is a very interesting plant, other than bringing you good luck; it consists of 4 different parts.

    - The bottom tan/brown part that looks to wrap around the plant is actually its roots.
    - The white hairs on it are strict nine
    - When cut open you will see a purple button inside of it, is what gets you high if ingested.
    - Beige cream is what you will see surrounding the purple button, that is what the Huicholýs use to treat bead sores, arthritis as well as to cool the temperature of someone with a fever.

What to pay: $4US a container

Located a few blocks away from the plaza this store is located inside a little mall.

You might have a little trouble locating this gallery, but it is well worth the searching out if you are looking for unique Huichol items that are not going to be found in Vallarta or the other stores located in Tepic.

What to buy: Another reason to support this store outside of its unique items is because an actual Huichol Indian is the owner.

The ceremonial masks and feathered hats are very interesting to say the least.

What to pay: this store is a lot cheaper than Cicuri but the selection isnt nearly as big.

hard to find but worth a look

I have been to many Huichol art stores in Tepic and this is not only the largest in terms of selection, but also the very best prices.

Cicuri also doubles as a museum featuring traditional garments as well as religious sacrifices.

When I go to Puerto Vallarta I always try to make time in order to visit this store in Tepic. If you are in pursuit of authentic Huichol art this store is a must.

What to buy: They offer traditional ceremonial masks and drums. The traditional masks that they sell are painted with the roots of plants or burned with fire.

Although I enjoy their bead work, I truly love the traditional masks that this store has to offer.

This is the store that Huichol art whole salers from the states go to buy their art work.

What to pay: ugghhhh, I love going here, but be prepaired to have your eyes taken out when purchasing anything. Their really is no barganing in this store, the woman behind the counter is.... well...MEAN! (lol)

the mean one is on the left

Favorite thing: There is quite a few street kids in Tepic, please dont forget about them before you go.
I dont like to give money to children out of fear that they are there for their parents or boss. I either buy them food, rent a room for them so they can shower and have a good night of sleep or in this case brought them teddy bears from the states.

They are so easy to ignore, but give them something, you will never forget their smile.
