Try Menudo - not a restaurant, but a wonderful dish in the Mexican style.
Menudo is good! Especially at 5:00 AM after binge drinking.
Favorite Dish: Menudo is tripe soup, laced with generous additions of oregano. It is said that menudo cures 'la cruda', or a hangover, as one might experience from massive consumption of tequila. (Forget the burning rotgut tequila shooters from high school days, though - nowadays highbrow sippin' tequila is in vogue, and one can hang on to a shot glass, sipping slowly, for an hour or so, until it is time for a refill)
Try the gorditas as a roadside stand!
These gorditas are cheap and good.
Favorite Dish: The gorditas are a Monterrey favorite, and they are good. Gorditas means 'little fat ones' in spanish, because they are usually stuffed with any number of different kinds of fillings, which really fattens them up. They can be savory or sweet, and both are equally enticing. The stand featured in this picture sells many types of gorditas filled with different toppings, like strawberry, caramel from goat's milk, and other mouth watering favorites.
Many great dishes and the place to be before a night on the town for Saturday. It is a seafood place, but I can't remeber the name..shame on me.
Favorite Dish: Very hot salsa!
( Left) a "gringa" dame from porc meat with spices in mexican tortilla, (right) "Tacos de carne asada" beef meat in tortilla
Favorite Dish: Taquitos are very taste, this couple are Taquitos de Trompo (left) and Tacos piratas (right), very taste in corn tortilla.
Flautas are 4 or 5 pieces of chicken of beef meat into a tortilla wrapped like a flutes, with cream, lettuce and of course green salsa. Mmmmmmmmmm.
Local candies are a good idea to make a gift, avoid to pay taxes if you return to your country with mexican tequila, candies are easy to carry, and very taste.
Also you need to try Turcos (Turkys) a soft candy bread made with dry meat inside, I know it sounds crazy, but the taste is great!!!
Every time you stay in Monterrey, ask for the Glorias de Linares (Linares glorys) this is the most typical regional candy, made from soft milk, nuts and other spices, envolved in a red package.
