  • Zócalo&Streets

    Oaxaca de Juárez Favorites

Oaxaca, in spite of the pedestrianised area, is quite a bustling little place, attracting a lot of tourists (and many travelling in groups). Worth identifying a quiet shady spot for yourself to escape from the crowds. The Zocalo is extensive and a great place to people watch, but not exactly quiet! The picture is of a little square immediately...

  • Chocolate & Mezcal

    Oaxaca de Juárez Favorites

One block south of Mercado Juarez you will find numerous chocolate grinders / mixers. You can try it either hot or cold, with milk or with water. The Mayordomo store has a bar which you can sit at, have a chico mio and watch them grind / mix the cocoa, canela, almonds and sugar. The aroma is intoxicaing and divine.

  • Jardin Etnobotanico

    Oaxaca de Juárez Favorites

Visit the Museo Ethnobotanico. There are daily tours that take you into this unique garden. It only has native vegetation of the beautiful state of Oaxaca. Definitly worth the time, even if you're not a botanist or architect/landscape artist.

  • Santo Domingo Tehuantepec

Tehuantepec is located only 20 km from the coast of the Pacific Ocean. So in my opinion it was rather natural to reach the coast and have a look at the Pacific Ocean or even to swim in it! In that case we could give the second name to our tour “Between the two Oceans”! My Favorite Thing About Estado de Oaxaca is my visit to Santo Domingo...

One can purchase and experience just about everything mexican in this huge market...I tried various food items and admired the beautiful fabrics and leather goods. It's easy to meet people from all around the world in here. The paths are narrow and congested and many, but it's quite fun to get lost in the place!!

Ooooh. The people of course. For the most part they are really nice. Going to my friend's high school graduation fiesta. It was a formal event and the whole familly goes. There is some live music and dancing. They give you and appetizer, a meat dish, and then a rich desert. And of course there is Rum and other drinks.

  • Meet a people full of life, faith, and...

We absolutely loved going out to the villages and meeting the artisans themselves, in both the carving and the weaving villages. The people are sweet-natured, and enjoy the appreciation of the art-collector. You do have to put up with the fact that these people must sell something to you to survive, and will tend to gear alot of their talk that...
