Golden Cookie Shop: Great Breakfast and Lunch Place!

by rstary Updated Apr 4, 2011

This fine restaurant is perfect for breakfast and lunch. It has a bakery that makes fresh bread and sweet rolls every day. Get there before 9:30 to have your choice of bread. It goes very fast.

Favorite Dish: We enjoyed the buttermilk pancakes for breakfast. My wife and I prefer the "house special" which is a pancake that includes bananas, raisins and walnuts. FRUGAL SUGGESTION: The 3 pancakes that come with any breakfast are quite large. My wife and I split a plate and had more than enough to eat.

If you want to buy pastries or fresh bread from the bakery, get there early. We picked up croissants at 8:30-9 AM and they were still warm!

The restaurant/bakery also caters to diabetics, celiacs and the lactose intolerant. All breads are whole grain, low in salt and preservative free.

    Frank's: Nice Sports Bar

    by kimberlyfisher1 Written Feb 23, 2009

Frank is a nice guy from Canada that escaped the cold winters for the mellow temperatures of Ixtapa. His Sports Bar is located in a central mall area that is easily accessed and has tons of fun things to do around it.

    Beccofino: Great Marina Restaurant

by rstary Written Apr 1, 2007

This is a fine dining establishment with a waterside table at the Marina. The ambiance is wonderful and the food is absolutely delicious! The wine seemed to be priced a bit too aggressively. They actually had Lancer's on the wine list for 280 pesos. I don't remember how long ago I drank Lancer's, but I wasn't about to go back to my early drinking days and drink that swill for any price!

Favorite Dish: I had a zucchini stuffed ravioli which was wonderful for those who like a dish that is slightly sweet.

    Rueben's: Need a burger?

by rstary Written Apr 1, 2007

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Great Hamburgers prepared on an outdoor barbecue grill over a mesquite fire! If you need a burger, this is the place to go. The kids will love it.

Favorite Dish: The burgers are the main attraction, but save room for dessert! You must order the baked banana dessert. They take a whole banana and cook it on the grill. They then slice it open and put a sweet cream on it. You eat the baked concoction right out of the blackened peel of the banana.

Mamma Norma & Deborah: Reasonable Price and Great Food

by rstary Updated Mar 22, 2007

    3 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This mostly outdoor restaurant offers Mexican and American cuisine. It is run by a lady who defected from British Columbia in 1988 to the warmer climes of Ixtapa. The food is wonderful and the service is great!

Favorite Dish: I had the shrimp enchilada and it was superb! The enchiladas were smothered in a green sauce and cheese was melted on the top. SAVE ROOM FOR THE AWARD WINNING CHOCOLATE CAKE. Make sure you get there early so they don't run out of the cake.

La Perla: Whole Red Snapper Grilled with Garlic

by aflaneur Written Aug 16, 2005

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This beachfront restaurant is your best bet for lunch in Zihuatenejo. The people watching on the beach is superb, the beer is ice cold, and the seafood is the freshest possible. This is a very informal place, and almost everyone is eating in their bathing suits before rejoining the beach action.

Favorite Dish: Whole Red Snapper grilled in garlic...it is one of the best meals I've ever had.

Villa de la Selva: Sunset and Great Food

by aflaneur Written Aug 16, 2005

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This is a high end, special occasion experience. Villa de la Selva has been around for eons -- it is located in the former villa of a President of Mexico -- and the opportunity to eat such good food while watching the sun set is kind of hard to ignore.

    Beccofino: Best Italian in Ixtapa

by aflaneur Written Aug 16, 2005

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This is a wonderful al fresco eating experience with surprisingly great freshness, quality, and service. I really didn't expect (or even want, for that matter) perfect Italian food during my Ixtapa stay, but this place is over-the-top great.

Favorite Dish: The pastas are all home made, as are the sauces. The basic marinara sauce is so fresh and tasty that it defies logic.

Cafe Morales: Best Local Mexican in Ixtapa

by aflaneur Written Aug 16, 2005

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Incredibly fresh and authentic...as opposed to neighboring restaurants that ply the tourists for money but are way short on delivery.

Favorite Dish: Anything and everything is great, especially the seafood and chicken dishes. Naturally, the guacamole is sublime.
