Las Brisas Ixtapa: Your own private beach

Las Brisas Ixtapa: Your own private beach, Ixtapa

aflaneur Says:  Love the decaying charms of Las Brisas Ixtapa...even the swarms of insects that compete for my open air buffet breakfast are part of the allure of the tropics. Perfect beach, great pools, decent food, wonderful service, crabs everywhere, incredible forced cardio workouts...

Beccofino: Great Marina Restaurant

Beccofino: Great Marina Restaurant, Ixtapa

rstary Says:  This is a fine dining establishment with a waterside table at the Marina. The ambiance is wonderful and the food is absolutely delicious! The wine seemed to be priced a bit too aggressively. They actually had Lancer's on the wine list for 280 pesos. I don't remember how long...

Rueben's: Need a burger?

Rueben's: Need a burger?, Ixtapa

rstary Says:  Great Hamburgers prepared on an outdoor barbecue grill over a mesquite fire! If you need a burger, this is the place to go. The kids will love it. The burgers are the main attraction, but save room for dessert! You must order the baked banana dessert. They take a whole...

Mamma Norma & Deborah: Reasonable Price and Great Food

Mamma Norma & Deborah: Reasonable Price and Great Food, Ixtapa

rstary Says:  This mostly outdoor restaurant offers Mexican and American cuisine. It is run by a lady who defected from British Columbia in 1988 to the warmer climes of Ixtapa. The food is wonderful and the service is great! I had the shrimp enchilada and it was superb! The enchiladas...

La Perla: Whole Red Snapper Grilled with Garlic

La Perla: Whole Red Snapper Grilled with Garlic, Ixtapa

aflaneur Says:  This beachfront restaurant is your best bet for lunch in Zihuatenejo. The people watching on the beach is superb, the beer is ice cold, and the seafood is the freshest possible. This is a very informal place, and almost everyone is eating in their bathing suits before...

Villa de la Selva: Sunset and Great Food

Villa de la Selva: Sunset and Great Food, Ixtapa

aflaneur Says:  This is a high end, special occasion experience. Villa de la Selva has been around for eons -- it is located in the former villa of a President of Mexico -- and the opportunity to eat such good food while watching the sun set is kind of hard to ignore.

Beccofino: Best Italian in Ixtapa

Beccofino: Best Italian in Ixtapa, Ixtapa

aflaneur Says:  This is a wonderful al fresco eating experience with surprisingly great freshness, quality, and service. I really didn't expect (or even want, for that matter) perfect Italian food during my Ixtapa stay, but this place is over-the-top great. The pastas are all home made, as...

Cafe Morales: Best Local Mexican in Ixtapa

Cafe Morales: Best Local Mexican in Ixtapa, Ixtapa

aflaneur Says:  Incredibly fresh and authentic...as opposed to neighboring restaurants that ply the tourists for money but are way short on delivery. Anything and everything is great, especially the seafood and chicken dishes. Naturally, the guacamole is sublime.

Nightlife

Las Brisas: Double Bubble Sunset

Las Brisas: Double Bubble Sunset, Ixtapa

rstary Says:  You have to hit Las Brisas for a cocktail during sunset. The view from the Lobby Bar is fantastic! They have a happy hour from 6-7 PM. Double bubble right while the sun is going down! What a great concept! The dress is casual.

Carlos & Charlies: Carlos & Charlies---go dancin!, Ixtapa

visurferguy Says:  A lively spot right on the beach in Ixtapa. Good drinks at a great price and lots of tourists getting crazy. Had a blast there. Check it out if you are into the party scene. Shorts, flip flops, tank tops, it doesn't matter---this is Mehico, man!

Avoid all the people approaching you about a taxi and walk immediately to the back of the building closest to the street and buy your cab fare. About $32 USD. The solicitors want you to attend a time share presentation.

Fish on a Panga!

We had a wonderful time fishing for small game fish directly out of Zihuatanejo and Ixtapa. We hired a Panga and four of us went fishing for about 3 1/2 hours and then had the fish cleaned and ate at Isla Ixtapa.

During the trip we caught eight fish, saw a whale and a manta ray. The boys had a blast!

Equipment: Go to the pier in Ziuantanejo and look for a storefront that is used by the local fisherman to attract customers. Avoid the guys on the beach. You'll pay more if you sign up on the beach. We paid $140 for two guys to take four of us out.
