Dusty little one-stop town about 12 kms southwest of Oaxaca. Only reason to come here is to see the magnificent Ex-Convento de Santaio de Apostol, a beautiful historic Dominican monastery. Begun in approx 1555, work stopped in 1560 and never continued! Beyond it is a church, with wonderful 16th & 17th century murals in the cloisters.
It's an important landmark not only for this but also because on 14 February 1831, the Mexican independence hero Vicente Guerrero was executed here by soldiers supporting the rebel conservative Bustamente.
