the petrified waterfall is much, much larger in photos than in person. Although there are several mineral filled wading poolsfor you to take a dip in at this site, the trip there and back is simply too long and tiring to make it a worthwhile destination.
Unique Suggestions: bring a swimsuit, plenty of water and a hat

I have been to Monte Alban twice, but I wasn't all that impressed. Unless you specifically have a love of ancient Mexican history, I would say skip it and spend more time in the actual city of Oaxaca, talking to the people and exploring the side streets. The city has so much to offer, but is treated simply as a gateway to other places. It's worth the trip to have Oaxaca as a major destination.
Unique Suggestions: See the view from the entrance ledge. It's the most impressive thing there. Also, inside the museum, is a glass covered grave where real skeletons lie in the bottom... that's sort of neat.
Fun Alternatives: Go back to Oaxaca and seek out the largest chocolate factory. It's an adventure to find and they give free samples!

The village of Mitla lies about 40 kilometers to the east of Oaxaca City.
The Church is one of the fondest archelogic monoment .
MITLA stand for the MIXTECAS INFLUENCE in that region .

The only bad thing I can say about Oaxaca is that is has become a little touristy. That is not to say that it distracts from the authenticity of the place, but I prefer to head off into little towns in Mexico and really get in with the culture. Oaxaca allows you to do that, but only on a very limited basis as they do cater to tourists.

It's one of the world record- tourist trap places but one worth seeing.
Tule is a few miles from Oaxaca City with frequent bus services.
The tree is supposed to be 2000 to 3000 years old and is just HUGE!!! It does look amazing.
Unique Suggestions: Have fun trying to take a picture with our success...

Inside the city are museums worth close attention, some interesting churches, and colorful markets. Outside town, there are the famous ruins of Monte Albán, the ruins at Mitla, and area villages known for their arts and crafts. It is sometimes best to check these out on market day.
If you're going to Oaxaca during any of the high tourist periods--Easter, July, November, and December--make reservations. You probably will not have any difficulties during the rest of the year. There are a number of hotel rooms being built in Oaxaca right now--more than can be filled during the normal season--so expect to see plenty of special rates offered for walk-in guests except in the large hotels that get business from conventions and conferences.

Oaxaca. Generally Oaxaca, capital of the Oax. state, is very expensive. pure tourist trap everywhere. Enjoy the sight but if you're travelling without money avoid staying there. Prices are at least 50 percent above national average

The venders outside the Monte Alban museum are selling their trinkets for prices much higher than other places in the city where you could find the same things...just look around at less touristy shops!

Many of the hotels & travel agents will book a trip to Monte Alban for you. Bus will collect you from the hotel and whisk you off for morning or afternoon trip and bring you back. Cost 150 pesos.
A bus from Hotel Meson del Angel (corner of Mina and Diaz Ordaz) will also whisk you off to the ruins - for 20 pesos. (see under transportation for more details)
