For an inexpensive extreamly pleasant tasting simple lunch fare I suggest bellying up to a vendor and chowing down. Almost everything is made right in front of you and I see no reason to be afraid of eating it. I haven't been sick from any of it yet.

At this vendor Julia and I got a mole coronado empanada. Highly recomended!

Every plate I tried was extremerly tasty. It was cooked in a adobe oven and it was the most delicious experience I had.

The atmosphere was very cozy, good for any special occation. I went there for dinner , and for an early brunch and the food and service was magnific.

Definitively the baked banana dish and the baked fish.

It has some rum on it and it is super, just out of this world.

their dishes besides some tipical mexican dishes include:
Specializing in Mexican Style Seafood • Oven-baked, Broiled and Fried Dishes • Fish Fillets • Whole Fish • Shrimp • Crab • Seafood Soup • Ceviche • Shrimp Cocktail

    Carioca:
Located in Colonial Reforma, it is your typical brazilian all you can eat steak restaurant. The cost is around 150 pesos per person and you will eat until you are sick and tired of meat. Restaurant atmosphere is very classy. I took a taxi there from downtown.

    La Escondida:
A favorite amongst the locals in Oaxaca. You can try all the local dishes in this buffet style restaurant. The cost is around 120 pesos per person. Definitely a must. The atmosphere is family oriented with a touch of tropical paradise.

    El Mirador:
Situated next to the auditorio guelaguetza, this restaurant offers an incredible view that you just can't miss out on. You can see the whole city of Oaxaca from this restaurant. They also offer Karaoke in the night. I have a photo of the view from this restaurant. There is a beautiful pathway that you can take to walk up here but it is quite tiresome. I recommend taking the taxi or bus to this restaurant and then walking down the hill to downtown. The path is beautiful because it is between houses but I do not recommend walking through this pathway at nighttime. During the daytime it is quite safe.

Just go to the mercado, buy a "bola de queso", some fresh bread and some "chescos" and then go and find yourself a park to have a wonderful picnic.

Ok, I have to admit ... I didn't try them ... yet ... and probably never will. I'd rather order another dish of POLLO hahaha ... But don't feel afraid though, it's one of the region's specialities and you may think of something nice when eating them.

I can't stand Mole'! I have tried to acquire a taste for it...I worked as a chef for 20 years and have a pretty broad pallet, but Mole is not my thing!!!

What I did love is the market places with the fabulous foods displayed!!! I wish I could have taken a load of these peppers home with me!!
