El Naranjo   Oaxaca de Juárez

El Naranjo, Oaxaca de Juárez

I went there for dinner , and for an early brunch and the food and service was magnific. Definitively the baked banana dish and the baked fish.It has some rum on it and it is super, just out of this world.their dishes besides some tipical mexican dishes include:Specializing in Mexican Style Seafood • Oven-baked, Broiled and Fried Dishes • Fish Fillets • Whole Fish • Shrimp • Crab • Seafood Soup • Ceviche • Shrimp Cocktail

various counters at the Mercados: Eat Like the Locals

by ViajesdelMundo

Reminiscent to me of the markets in downtown Baltimore where I grew up, are the MERCADOS off the central square in Oaxaca, where, in addition to all the food stalls, there are many counters where you can have a meal. Certainly for the budget-minded, but also anyone interested in local experience and great simple foods, this is fun for both breakfasts and lunches!!Browse around a little first, then take a seat where the food entices most! I love it ALL!

Mole' is King!!

by jgemini65

I can't stand Mole'! I have tried to acquire a taste for it...I worked as a chef for 20 years and have a pretty broad pallet, but Mole is not my thing!!! What I did love is the market places with the fabulous foods displayed!!! I wish I could have taken a load of these peppers home with me!!

Los Pacos: Try the 6-MOLE' Sampler

by ViajesdelMundo

Very comfortable, nicely decorated with art, well-located, good prices. They have a sampler of 6 different mole' sauces, with your choice of chicken, etc. Good for identifying which is your favorite, to be able to order in the future!

Carioca, La Escondida, El Mirador: 3 MUST Restaurants en Oaxaca

by chenglinlee

Carioca:Located in Colonial Reforma, it is your typical brazilian all you can eat steak restaurant. The cost is around 150 pesos per person and you will eat until you are sick and tired of meat. Restaurant atmosphere is very classy. I took a taxi there from downtown.La Escondida:A favorite amongst the locals in Oaxaca. You can try all the local dishes in this buffet style restaurant. The cost is around 120 pesos per person. Definitely a must. The atmosphere is family oriented with a touch of tropical paradise.El Mirador:Situated next to the auditorio guelaguetza, this restaurant offers an incredible view that you just can't miss out on. You can see the whole city of Oaxaca from this restaurant. They also offer Karaoke in the night. I have a photo of the view from this restaurant. There is a beautiful pathway that you can take to walk up here but it is quite tiresome. I recommend taking...

Uaaaah: Chapulines de Oaxaca

by AnnaLupilla

Ok, I have to admit ... I didn't try them ... yet ... and probably never will. I'd rather order another dish of POLLO hahaha ... But don't feel afraid though, it's one of the region's specialities and you may think of something nice when eating them.

This is a MUST!: Queso de Oaxaca

by AnnaLupilla

Just go to the mercado, buy a "bola de queso", some fresh bread and some "chescos" and then go and find yourself a park to have a wonderful picnic.
