The area around Mitla is known as the place where the best mezcal comes from. Naturally you can buy it everywhere. In Mitla yur really have to be a ''genious'' to miss a store which sells mezcal. It comes in all sizes and prices. If you want to throw a party, you'll buy bigger ones, you want just a souvenire - smaller one. And, of course, in every bottle there must be a worm. It adds to the flavour.
Outside of the entrance to the ruins there are a bunch of tiendas set up for people to browse through and for foreigners to spend their money. Very smart business move to have them outside of Mitla´s main attraction.
Bear in mind, things in Mitla are cheaper than in Oaxaca (which is still cheaper that Guadalajara), but if you aren´t prepared to barter you may end up spending more than neccessary. Lately I have my bartering hat on in full swing, so I was able to get some good deals on skirts and stuff like that...like my friend said, since its cheaper here, its almost like you are taking it....
What to buy: The clothing here is very original, shirts and skirts which are unique to this area of the Country. Also, blankets and tablecloths are very beautiful and can be found all over.
