Favorite thing: COZUMEL
A medium-sized islandwhere you can see the National Underwater Park of Palancar. If you like snorkeling, this is the place!!! The second largest coral reef in the world, here came Jacques Cousteau to film some of his famous TV docs!
But if you go for the beach, try at Chankanaab, a beautiful turquoise waters beach to rest under a palm tree (see photo).
You can reach Cozumel by plane or by boat from the coastal city of Puerto Morelos.
Go to Cozumel! It is a small...
Favorite thing: Go to Cozumel! It is a small island and is wonderfully cultural! Rent scooters and cruise the west side of the island stopping at hotels and Tiki Huts with exotic tropical drinks. You can pay a few american dollors to utilize the hotels pools, bars, restaurants, bathrooms, beaches and most importantly their lockers! We took our own snorkel gear and saw some amazing coral, fish and a US bomber right off the beach!
Fondest memory: In Cozumel - Carlos and Charlies - what a fun place! A little mexican girl comes around to give you shots and once you take the shot she blows a whistle and shakes your head, grabs your chest (very shocking) and for the guys she smacks your butt!
In Cancun the parties are plentiful, the white sandy beaches are incredible and the hotels very accomodating.
Take a trip to the islands of women, it's a local village and is fasinating. Also you must go on a midnight party boat (only if you like to party)!
I got sunburned so my stay there was limited but everything was beautiful. Cancun is a bit expensive but Cozumel is cheap - my pick, Cozumel!
Snorkelling at Cozumel
Fondest memory: We went snorkelling one day at the island of Cozumel. This is located just outside Playa and the ferry over takes about 30-40 minutes. The reef that goes from Mexico down to Belize is the second largest reef in the world and I was impressed when we started snorkelling. The depths varied from 1 to 15 meters but it was not a problem to see straight down to the bottom. We saw lots of fish, lobsters and we even spotted a couple of manta rays. We bought this 'deal' on the pier in Playa and I think that we paid something like 500 pesos for two. We were taken out to three different locations in a glass bottom boat and the instructor that went into the water with us was great. He was constantly on the move and he pointed out were we could spot interesting stuff. And it was great to have a cold beer after snorkelling :-). The waves were pretty big when we went in the last time and he was pretty exhausting to keep up with the instructor. But this part is something that I will remember for a long time.
