Isla Cancùn Things to Do

  • Chichen Itza Pyramid

Bring plenty of water for drinking - if summertime - as it gets very hot. you may want to bring an extra tshrit for change in case of too much perspiration. Entrance is $7 each - children are free. Uncemented area - so bring good walking shoes. Leather not recommneded since the leather gets hot - I did feel the heat burning in my leather...

Visit the Valladolid Church. After leaving Chichen Itza - we passed by the Valladolid church....said a little prayer...

  • Going up and down the Chichen Itza

Going up: There is a rope to assist you - about 97 steps to go up and down....Going down: Use the rope as it is very steep. Some are sitting down each step to get down. There are no safety barriers to protect children nor adults on top of the pyramid - so pls be careful.

  • Private Car to Chichen Itza

We rented a Budget Car at our hotel - get all the insurance they will provide since it is very recommended - in case of accidents or police harrassment... (good experience since none happend)The drive was 1.5hrs from the Hotel Zone to Chichen Itza. The roads are very well maintained. You will pass 2 toll booths - 1st toll is at $18 and the second...

  • Mayan Ruins at Tulum

What would a visit to Mexico be without seeing a mayan ruin? One of the more popular ruins is located at Chitzen Itza. For me I stayed in the Mayan Riviera, which was a few hours away from this ruin.Tulum was considerably closer (under 30mins away) so I visited that instead. The view is spectacular not only of the ruins but the ocean it overlooks.Put...

  • Xel-ha Eco Resort

This eco-friendly resort pronouned "shell-ha", is a nature lover's paradise. On land enjoy watching the birds or the scenery. The biggest attraction is the snorkelling, it's simply one of the best experiences I've had in my life. You can basically choose wherever you wish to snorkel, you can be alone or with a group of people, there are so many...

Isla Cancùn Restaurants

  • Chinese Food in Cancun

we were craving for chinese food after days of several french fries and hotel food - such as steaks, quesadillas...As were were adventuring outside the hotel zone area - we discovered Plaza Hong Kong Restaurant - located in front of Walmart...Wow - there is a chinese chef in Cancun... Menu prices are very reasonable compared to the Hotel Zone...

  • Lorenzillo's Lobster House

The best lobster house in Cancun. We ordered a 2kilo lobster and split the lobster between the 2 of us - the best... comes with spinach puree and mexican rice... wow!!!! location is on the lake itself - lobsters are bred inhouse and you can actually select the lobster you want - from small to big ones.Best service, too. Isla Cancùn Transportation

  • Car Rentals

The airport at Cancun has several car rentals at $40 a day - includes MX insurance. Best to use this service so that you can go around Cancun. The hotel zone is 1 strip of hotels and the I think this is the cheapest mode - at least, you have a car at your service once you get there. Get a car from the airport - drive to your hotel and have the car...

  • Canun Shuttle

Cancun Shuttle offers private rides to and from the airport to your destination. The driver nor the greeter do not make sales talk about properties (time shares) and tours in the area - which is very nice instead of constantly saying "no" to their efforts.... We used their service on our 2nd trip (jul 2006).

  • Best Day Travel. Com

I've arranged for Best Day Travel to pick us up to and from the airport of Cancun and take us to the hotel. It is a shuttle company. The fare was $20 each person for the 2 trips -plus recommended tip to the driver.Very good experience since it is our first time. Taxis were not recommended by other VT's but I guess we can do the taxi next time since...

  • Isla Mujeras " Island of Women"

I just remember lots of cute purses hanging from the ceiling. Lots of hand crafted items. Hand woven and hand painted. My purse was only $15.00 dollars. It was handwoven the old fashion way the women their weave in and had very bright tribal looking colors and patterns.

  • Don't Forget Insurance

If your current health insurance doesn't cover you while your abroad, you should consider getting international travel insurance just in case something should go wrong.

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Sometimes, a friendly man will approach to assist you after arriving from the customs area of the airport - wanting to help. Once you talk to him, he will lead you to another agent who will try so sell your tickets to Excaret (the Disneyland of Cancun) with large 80% discounts.

The catch if for you to pick it up the ff day at a hotel (or they will pick you up) for a free breakfast... Once you get your free breakfast, these agents will sell you condos, timeshares, etc... Be prepared to say NO - be strong enough to decline - and still get tickets.....

First, these agents will ask where you are staying - I think they based the kind of sale where you stay - if they know you are staying in an expensive hotel, they will make salescalls abit more convincing... timeshares and condo units....

If you are staying in a 2 star hotel, they will sell you a tour...

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: more than 1 swimwear - as elasticity tends to wear off in hot and humid weather... plus the chlorine and sea water will wear off your bathing suit

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: sunscreen (hot and humid) or tanning oils (if you want to get a nice tan)

    Photo Equipment: waterproof camera

Miscellaneous: Children - floating devices. It was $10/day to rent a floating bed in our hotel

    viewing the sea
