The airport at Cancun has several car rentals at $40 a day - includes MX insurance. Best to use this service so that you can go around Cancun. The hotel zone is 1 strip of hotels and the I think this is the cheapest mode - at least, you have a car at your service once you get there. Get a car from the airport - drive to your hotel and have the car...more
Cancun Shuttle offers private rides to and from the airport to your destination. The driver nor the greeter do not make sales talk about properties (time shares) and tours in the area - which is very nice instead of constantly saying "no" to their efforts.... We used their service on our 2nd trip (jul 2006).more

Sometimes, a friendly man will approach to assist you after arriving from the customs area of the airport - wanting to help. Once you talk to him, he will lead you to another agent who will try so sell your tickets to Excaret (the Disneyland of Cancun) with large 80% discounts.
The catch if for you to pick it up the ff day at a hotel (or they will pick you up) for a free breakfast... Once you get your free breakfast, these agents will sell you condos, timeshares, etc... Be prepared to say NO - be strong enough to decline - and still get tickets.....
First, these agents will ask where you are staying - I think they based the kind of sale where you stay - if they know you are staying in an expensive hotel, they will make salescalls abit more convincing... timeshares and condo units....
If you are staying in a 2 star hotel, they will sell you a tour...
more than 1 swimwear - as elasticity tends to wear off in hot and humid weather... plus the chlorine and sea water will wear off your bathing suit

Photo Equipment: waterproof camera
Miscellaneous: Children - floating devices. It was $10/day to rent a floating bed in our hotel
