    Plaza Central: Sunday night fiesta

by Quero Written Nov 16, 2004

The plaza on a quiet night

Every Sunday night the locals come to the Plaza all dressed up and ready to dance. There is a mariachi band (or similar), and plenty of high spirits to go along. The party is over at about 10, but that's okay. Got an early dive in the morning, right?

    Dress Code: Casual atmosphere.

Neptuno: Dance club with a Latin beat

by Quero Updated Nov 16, 2004

This dance club is popular with the younger crowd. They feature music with a strong beat that keeps the place shaking late into the night. The club has a huge area, able to cram in perhaps 500 or more patrons.

    Senor Frogs: Dances with Frogs

    Mark with Senor Frog

Since we were on a cruise that had a timetable, we did not get to spend an evening in Cozumel, although you could tell that the clubs were beginning their evening rituals and were converting dinner tables into dancehalls. One of the places where you can be assured to be harassed by tequila toting waitresses, and dancing tourists is at Senor Frogs. Senor Frogs is a close cousin to Carlos 'N Charlies, and in Cozumel, it is actually in the same physical building (albeit upstairs). Around 7pm, the first wave of people started up the stairs, and I am sure the party went all night long!

Carlos 'n Charlies: Boozing it up with the other tourists

by garridogal Updated May 21, 2004

    Suckers born every day...

You've all heard of these places, they're a chain. Went to my first Carlos 'n Charlies in Acapulco in the 70's when I was just a teenager. It's a typical Tourist Trap bar full of drunk Americans. Their speciality are shots, poured into your mouth by a waitress who will then grab you by the ears, shake your head, grab your titties and smack you on the bum. We passed.

Dress Code: You could probably show up half naked and no one would care. In fact, they'd probably like it more!

It's lots of beer and beef, and it goes on all night long. If you want to have a conversation, go to the "quiet area" out on the sidewalk--you'll still be able to hear the music, too!

    Oh, yeah. Margueritas, too!

Viva Mexico: The place you return to again and again!

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

We walked in to Viva Mexico on our first night in Cozumel and stumbled back out several hours later having made a ton of friends and having the time of our life! You cannot beat dancing the night away to a mix of house music, hip hop and latin music on a roof with an incredible view of the lights of Cancun on the horizon! People are good to look at, good to dance with, the drinks are affordable and after one night here, you will try other places, but finish the night off dancing with the sexiest man and woman in Cozumel, both of whom work there.

Dress Code: dress casual but ready for a night of outdoor dancing in the tropics

    the Hard Rock Cafe!

Here's the Hard Rock Cafe in Cosumel. It seem to be a very busy place at night time.
Actually the Double D retaurant & bar next door to it seems to be a good spot to go to also. They seem very busy (maybe it's because their drinks are cheaper than that at the Hard Rock Cafe).

Ambar Lounge & Bar: Cool Bar!

by TXgal Written Jan 17, 2003

A more upscale bar than others. When you're passing by it looks small inside, but there's a large courtyard in the back w/ tables outside. They had live musicians playing the night I went, I don't know if that's regular for every night, probably just weekends.

Dress Code: Shorts are acceptable everywhere in Cozumel. Some ladies had dresses on, it's definately a more upscale place than Charlos n Charlies :-)

Viva México: Free Tequilla all the time???

    by graz-ie Updated Oct 12, 2005

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

I?m not sure about the free Tequilla all the time - I just know that the night I was the waiters were always dancing around in lines and gave free shots of Tequilla to each one of the guests.
I wasn?t dancing in the lines because I don?t like Tequilla at all - at least not pur.
It was very nice music (from the charts but also Salsa) and I heard about them also having Live Music.

    Dress Code: nothing I noticed

Great live band and a dance floor. Although as the pic shows, we were dancing on the benches at our tables! We had a bunch of people go out from our hotel in Cozumel and we had a ball. I'm 2nd from the left!

Dress Code: Pretty much anything goes at, after all, everyone in here is on vacation ;-)

Senor Frog's: Do A Little Dance

A loud club with black lights and good dance music, but without a pretentious vibe you might get anywhere in the States, Senor Frog's is the definite go-to spot for tourists. The staff makes sure to take care of their guests and if you loosen up a little, you'll definitely have a great time.

I have been coming here since they opened in 2001, and have always had a great time. This year was the best, though, because it's where I met my boyfriend (in the picture).

San Miguel will have the majority of nightlife and entertainment. There are plenty of places to choose from, including the world famous Senor Frog's and Carlos' n Charlie's. Most of the places will be along Avenida Rafael Melgar.

    Senor Frog's: Frog's is Awesome

    by Shanna_coggins Updated Jul 5, 2005

Senor Frog's was the best! They have the coolest waiters, the best drinks, and the best music on the island. it does not hurt that the MC's and about 75% of the Waiters are pretty good-looking and are always willing to get you on the dance floor! And yes, that is ME making out with the MC...What a hottie!

Dress Code: No dress code! A beer in your hand always helps though!
