I have this tip on some of my other pages too, but there is nowhere it is more recommended than here! The snorkelling on Cozumel is amazing! And you will hate yourself for the rest of your life if you don't have anything for taking pictures under water. If you don't have an expencive underwater-camera, don't worry. Buy an Aquapac and put your camera inside. It can take pictures down to 2m and it works great. You could also buy a disposable underwater-camera, but pay a little bit more for the Aquapac and you can use it for many years.

    Backpack

Good walking shoes, cool comfortable clothing because it is HOT! A hat to shade the sun and some good shades.

DEET-Mosquito repellent containing DEET make sure you bring some from home because the stuff they sell there disapates in 5 minutes and the mosquitos will literally carry you away!
    Sunscreen and chapstick

    Plan ahead or pay dearly
  • Tip Rating:
  • Absolutely do not forget to pack sunglasses, a hat, film for your camera, sunblock, and anything else along these lines that you think you'll need. Sure you can buy it there if you forget it but I assure you that you will overpay dearly for it. You can buy silver jewelry for less than it costs to buy sunblock there.

Buy a great map online--then pack it!
  • Tip Rating:
  • "Can Do Cozumel"

An excellent resource to help you plan your visit and to carry along while you are there is the great map that Laura "Map Chick" has developed. Check it out online, and then buy it!

Pack for fun under the SUN
  • Tip Rating:
  • Bring as little as possible. Who wants to lug heavy bags around?

    Sandals
Sneakers/closed toe shoes for walking around in the underbrush, if you go off the beaten track.
Rain jackets always come in handy during inclement weather.
    Swimsuits, duh.

MOSQUITO REPELLENT - get the cream kind. Nothing else seemed to work.

Benadryl (I ALWAYS carry this with me now, just in case . . .)
Asprin/Tylenol/Advil for those days when the sun gives you a headache.
Tampons - hard to find abroad, ladies. OBs pack the smallest.

    Disposable underwater camera for snorkeling.

After returning, have found out that serious photographers can purchase Ikelite housing to take cameras underwater. http://www.ikelite.com/

Lens tissue! (I forgot mine and managed to stick a thumb on the lens)

    SUNBLOCK, WATERPROOF
If you'll be out all day, supposedly surfers use the Bullfrog brand.
Lip balm with sunblock. Your lips will burn too!
    HAT
Lightweight pants and long-sleeved shirt to keep off the sun
    Beach towel
    Sunglasses
    A beach-reading book or two

American dollars are accepted almost everywhere. Bring a wad with you. Realize you'll likely get better rates with pesos, though.

Snorkels, masks and fins can be bought at the dive shops on the island. However, you may be able to get a better deal at home. US Divers equipment seemed to work well.

    Passport
    Copies of your passport
    Hotel information
Flight information (if you booked in advance, be sure to reconfirm)

    Stuff to bring
  • Tip Rating:
  • It can be hot and humid! Bring a hat and comfortable clothing. Good walking shoes are a must.

Sunscreen is a must even if not going to the beach

Bring plenty of water if venturing outside of San Miguel. You can buy bottled water in town.

    Easy on the Feet
  • Tip Rating:
  • If you plan on going to the beach and going into the water, pack a cheap pair of canvas sneakers or those "swim slipper things". The island has a lot of exposed coral (especially the Atlantic side) and it is sharp.

    Swimmer's Ear....
Sun Screen and Bug Spay for sure - but they are still easy to find if you forget them. Bring stuff for swimmers ear if you cant read Spanish and are planning any underwater activities.
