If you like your Taxi driver, get his phone number so you can call him when ever you need him. This way you are familiar with who you will be dealing with. I do not recommend a rent a car because you most likely will get charged an outrageous amount for gas. NEVER travel alone... Always travel in groups around their. Never use your credit card if at all possible. You are very likely to be over charged once you get your bill down the road. Some people have gotten their bill months later so be aware of that as well.

    Taxi

    by LiamJackson10 Written Aug 26, 2010

They are taxi you get them in every country you go. They are white in colour normally with a coloured strip down the side and say taxi on the side and front and some times a light saying taxi on the top. I find them more expensive than the bus service and onyl used them a few times. There is no meter in the taxi like in the UK therefore you have to agree a price before you get in the car or they charge what they like. The price they start with is always higher so you need to haggle down. Our rep gave us a idea what we should pay from place to place. Plus the hotel staff at the front of the hotel always advised us on what to pay and even did the haggling for us before we got in a taxi. I would wear the seat belt provided as looking at the speed limit they was going over it by 30 or 40 kph which is quite abit on a road where they just pull out and don't signal. They are a good use to use and there are plenty off them around to use.

  • We Tried to Pay the Taxi Driver

We had been told many times that the Mexicans in the area would accept payment in U.S. money, but nobody had specified that they would accept only BILLS, not coins.

Our only taxi driver on the trip rejected our dollar of quarters, and also refused a dollar bill with a small piece missing from one corner. I'm sure he had good reasons, but Tom and I were not prepared for the situation. It was really aggrivating for everyone concerned.

If you don't have too much luggage - take a taxi (car) from Cancun airport to Playacar. This costs USD$50 each way. To take a Private minibus it costs USD$62 each way. To book a private minibus before you arrive costs about USD$180. Take your pick !

Playa del Carmen is about 40 minutes drive from the Cancun International Airport.
There were to many of us to fit in a passenger car so we opted for a taxi van to take us to Playa.
I don't remember exactly but think it cost us around $50.

It is possible to take a taxi between Playa del Carmen and Cancun. Our driver told us that the regular fare from PDC to Cancun was $35US. We needed two taxi's, so our rate was $30 per car.
The trip from PDC to Cancun airport is 41mi/66km one way and can be done in about 45 minutes.
