La Posada Margherita: Amazing food, hired staff is shady
I love this place; the food is unique, exquisitely fresh, the atmosphere unusual. I've returned each time I've vacationed in Tulum and never been disappointed. Unfortunately, eating there just last week first the table next to ours and then, 15 minutes later, my table were accused of being $20 USD short in our payment - 5 minutes after the payment was picked up from the table. It was clearly a scam by the rather cheeky waiters (a young man from Argentina and a young woman) and had nothing to do with the owners, whom I love. But the ensuing argument destroyed the evening and I'll never go back there.
Posada Margherita: Overpriced, pretentious
A very pseudo-chic little restaurant on the beach with 8-10 tables. Quite pretty, and the rooms look very nice from the outside.
The restaurant is Italian, run by an Italian man and an Italian cook. The manager/waiter is quite abrupt, egotistical, and squirrelly. Rushed us through dinner, and paid attention only to the one beautiful woman in the restaurant (typical?).
Four entrees, one bottle of wine. $150. Although the pasta was good, it is certainly WAY overpriced, and not worth the service we had to put up with!
Favorite Dish: Had a good shrimp pasta. Hand made pasta.
Posada Margherita: Beautiful Italian Food
Posada Margherita is small hotel / restaurant run by two beautiful Italians.
My wife and I have dined here several times during visits to Tulum, and it is our favorite place to eat, hands down. Alessandro (one of the proprietors) will sit down at your table, and explain the day's menu -- They serve semi-traditional Italian food with a twist -- much of their menu is vegetarian as both owners are vegetarians themselves. You don't need to be a vegetarian to eat here, though. The food stands on its own.
When you eat here, don't be in a rush: You're in for a traditional 2-3 hour European dinner. Relax, enjoy the antics of Posada Margherita's dogs (Giacamo, Pietro, and ?) and prepare yourself for a great (and very reasonable) meal.
Make *sure* to make a reservation here, though. The establishment only has 8-10 tables, many of which the hotel guests reserve. If show up without a reservation, it's not likely you'll be seated.
Favorite Dish: The menu changes daily.
