Freeman Hotel Rooftop Pool and Lounge
Best view of the city, Stone Island, Old town, docks etc. Great. Always take people we know there. Sunsets from here are awesome. This is also the first tall building in Mazatlan and very historical. Original elevator and first in town. It is Historical Mazatlan and away from the Golden Zone. Close to Machado Square and other important landmarks. Quite a ways from the Golden Zone and main tourist area.

Bruja's for brewskis, and more...
At the Cerritos end of the Cerritos/Juarez bus route is a lovely, fairly undeveloped (as of yet!) beach area, Bruja's, with a nice restaurant down one of the side roads, and down another side road are a number of beach palapa restaurants where one can get a nice cold beer for about 15 pesos, roughly $1.30 with a lovely view of the ocean. We haven't eaten at any of these restaurants so we can't vouch for the food, but the brewski's were good!
Update: We have eaten at Bruja's a couple to times now, their breakfast is really good - for less than $5 you get juice, coffee, fruit, eggs and meat.
On Saturday nights they have awesome entertainment! Around 5pm they have dancing horses on the beach, around 6pm there is folk dancing, last night there was a big mariachi band, and finally a guitarist/flautist around 7! Their happy hours are from 5-10pm every night, and the deal is 2 for 1!! For $5 you get 2 margaritas, pina coladas, or mai tai's , etc. And all this while enjoying a gorgeous view of the ocean, beautiful sunsets, etc!!

Walking the beach to Playa Bruha!
The north beach is what I consider the best beaches on the Mexican east coast. You have miles of beautiful white sand and very few people (or peddlers). You can walk for miles & watch the dolphins fallowing the shoarline or go watch the locals surfing at the north end by Playa Bruha Restaurant.
The walk is as relaxing as it can get & reminds you why you do go to Mexico for a holiday.

Climb *** Mountain!
This was truly a beautiful little hike up the mountain, but what they don't tell you is that it's right next to a sewage treatment plant. Yuck! We found ourselves running up to escape the smell. Also, make sure you where actual shoes rather than sandals--there be ants on them there hills.

A local butcher!
My wife & I were walking down a side street to go back to the tourist area when we decided to stop into a small corner store to buy a coke. It turned out that the store was a store / butcher shop & they had half a cow hanging by the checkout counter that they were ready to cut up.
We kind of looked at each other & both thought (ONLY IN MEXICO!) So of course we had to pull out the camera and take a picture.
Most of the people come to Mazaztlýn for the sun and the beach, but a walk in the city center is interesting. The Plazuela Machado is very cozy and the cathedral as well as the Theater ýngela Peralta are also worth visiting.
Take the individual taxi tour
One of our taxi drivers asked if we wanted a custom individual tour of the city. We weren't planning this activity but he assured us that we could go for as long or short a time as we wanted. We decided to go and it was well worth it. I can't remember what he actually charged us but I remember that it was pretty cheap. As advertised he took us all over the city and told us all about it. He even suggested some spots for good photographs. The entire tour took about 3-4 hours with plenty of time to see most everything.
200 year old cathedral
A visit to this historical old church is a must. I go there everytime I am in Mazatlan. I find something new and get to see more inside. It has beautiful architecture and amazing details inside.
