The traffic is extremely fast...
  • Tip Rating:
  • The traffic is extremely fast and crazy!!!!! Drivers are notorious for zig zagging throughout the lanes, including the wrong lanes. There are MANY dead animals of all types along side the streets.***BEWARE: it costs money to use bathrooms!!!!!! There is a minimal charge for EACH SQUARE of tissue, so you better be a good guesser. There is also a charge for a pail of water to flush with! RECOMMENDATION: Always keep some hygiene products with you at all times. Also, indoor plumbing is limited to those of wealth. So don't ask any locals to use their restroom!

  • Tip Rating:
  • I know a lot of people visit the central thinking they will pack light and they swing there backpack on the back and off they go. It is good to pack light but be conscious that your bag is behind you were you cannot see it.

  • Tip Rating:
  • Two men attempted to rob me on a busy mian street - I carried a fanny pack in front, in it was an inexpensive camera and other small personal items, ID etc. but no money, They didn't take anything as they only seemed interested in money. I keep my money in a clip in a front pocket.

    Adjusting to the Poverty
Be prepared for begging. Even at some restaurant settings, we were approached by beggers. It is a bit unsettling.

    Typical Mexico Scam
One Scam for you to watch out for is the Guy with the Cute birds,in the small cages in the plaza,They come out of their cage when he tells them and they little tricks like ring a bell, put a little sombro on and so on,he then has the bird pull out a fortune for you out of a box ,If you ask him beforehand he explains is 10 pesos a fortune, the bird then pulls out some 6 pieces of paper, when i explained we only wanted one,he explaines it is up to your karma and the bird,my girlfrend who should know better, gave the guy 40 more pesos on top of the 10 i had allready given him,I got mad and told him i was going to speak to the police but i have little recourse because my girlfriend should have refused to pay him, if this happens to you, just put the extra fortunes(papers) back on the little table and walk off,if he desides to pester you, tell him if he continues to bother you,you will look for an officer,if he is indeffernet, just look around for the police. All of the guys as most of your freelance vendors have no license,so their allways in violation of the city law in the first place,i have see one guy that works in the Best Western in Mexico Citys Zocolo, with the same act but dosent try and cheat you,he does a cute show and it is accually worth 20 pesos, but he only ask that you make a donation of whats the show was worth to you,he is pretty cool but allways remember that if you have any conflicts with the Freelance vendors, look for the Police,if you have trouble with the police allways remind the Officer that most citys,Mexico City, etc allow these people to operate but if they dont have a license from the city goverment they are indeed in violation of Mexican law.

    all over Mexico germs and...
all over Mexico germs and bacteria abound. So if you're not a native Mexican you may not be used to eating certain foods, so be careful with street vendors, especially with fruit drinks and make sure to always drink bottled, purified water
