So be sure to go shopping at the colorful local markets, such as Pasaje Picheta or the best in the city -- Casa de las Artesanias -- on Calle 63, with handcrafts from Yucatan made by Yucatecans with great prices!
Don't miss the handcrafts Market "Lucas de Gálvez", or (if you're there on a Sunday), enjoy Merida en Domingo, an outdoor handcraft markets and food festivals in the Main Plaza, Hidalgo Park and Santa Lucia Park.
Items made from a sisal fiber called henequen are a special local commodity. Henequen was oncethe main industry in the Yucatan and can be found in hand-crafted baskets, tablemats and hammocks.
