  • International Bridges

    Nuevo Laredo Transportation

There's a website where they show the flow of the bridges in both sides, I am still thinking that the best way to go through Nuevo Laredo is not going through Nuevo Laredo at all.Try the close border crossings and you will notice a difference:http://www.ci.laredo.tx.us/bridgesys/bridge4cam.html

    Nuevo Laredo Warnings and Dangers

Went down there with a friend, both of us are whiter than white with the most obvious southern accents, yet the border guards gave us much grief trying to get back across. There's a cheap little flea market on the TX-side of the border that was well worth the stop.

    Nuevo Progreso Favorites

A friend from Houston drove down my way here in the deep deep South Texas to the border towns on the Rio Grade Valley, a hop-n-a-skip to Mexico for dental work. Now, I have to be honest, I live in Harlingen, Texas, which is about 30 minutes away from both Matamoros and Progreso, and yet, because of the much hyped up violence on the news about drug...

  • Get off the main drag

    Nuevo Progreso Tourist Traps

Most folks who walk across the border to shop and eat in Nuevo Progreso stay to the main thoroughfare that meets up with the bridge crossing. But if you go just a few blocks off the main path, you'll find much smaller crowds, nicer shops, and cleaner restaurants. Also, fewer children selling chicle.

  • Progreso Market

    Nuevo Progreso Things to Do

The multistory Progreso Market has more than two dozen shops featuring arts and crafts from all over Mexico as well as a grocery section and a pharmacy. It is enclosed by a wall and offers a bit of refinement not found out on the main street. The shops did not seem to be as crowded here as on the main strip. Perhaps this was because it was at the...

  • Toliet paper, you need it.

    Matamoros Favorites

The El Mercado, the market but when you go to some restrooms in Mexico, there is not always toliet paper so you might want to carry some in your purse, car or bag. Took a drive on the beach, I was with someone that had been there when they were a child and could answer some questions I had, like there are food and beer vendors up and down the...

    Matamoros Shopping

There are lots of souvenir shopping opportunities here and Americans frequently hop over the borderto take advantage of the cheaper prices. So stock up on your tequila and sombreros. Note dollars are perfectly acceptable.

Precisely the same menu as all of the Applebee's Restaurants in the USA. They have good steaks and chicken, salads, steamed vegetables, and what have you. • Good food in a lounge atmosphere

    Reynosa Restaurants

Really good mexican food, in a late 60's, early 70's lounge atmosphere. There is also a guitar player!! I'm not sure of the location, b/c I was driven there, but its right by the international bridge.Caution, the service is a bit "old school", so don't expect to rush through your meal, plan for at least 2 hours. Tacos California and the Panchos.

  • BUS in Mexico: best way to travle in...

    Mérida Transportation

First class buses are clean, comfortable and reasonable. It is a good way to travel in Mexico. There are few bus companies in Mexico. We took ADO buses from Cancun to Merida; it took four hours, and the price was 165 pesos (about US$16.50) one way.Same day or advanced tickets can be purchased at the bus terminals (I think they only accept cash)....

  • Buses Versus Private Cars

    Mérida Transportation

Rental cars are pretty much cost prohibitive and don't even operate reliably. We had one trip to the area on which it took three tries to get a car that functioned for more than 40 miles. On the other hand, buses are pretty reliable and extremely cheap. For those who might be worried about safety ... don't. They are a great alternative for anyone...
