    Lake Catemaco

Lake Catemaco is also about 30 minutes by local bus from San Andres Tuxla.
The local bus leaves from a street behind the church, right opposite the Hotel Cathedral.
It's 5 or 6 pesos each way. The bus ride there takes you through some lovely countryside & all of a sudden you are bumping through this tiny place with dirt roads and it stops and you're in Catemaco. If you take the first road on your left and keep walking you come down to the lake shore ( where the long distance busses stop). If you go right there are some restaurant and some boats that will take you for trips on the lake, I turned left and was soon walking along the lake shore on a dirt path. It's really a nice place to relax. This city girl did feel pangs of love for the beautiful nature.
Catemaco is also famous for having a lot of whitch doctors there - but I didn't see any, I think they are in a more remote area.

Salto de Eyipantla - A waterfall

by Vikingvicki Written Apr 1, 2005

There is a small waterfall about 30 minutes outside San Andres. I got there by local bus, it cost 6 pesos each way. The bus there starts at the corner of the markets, but also stops at the Zocalo, near the banco Azteca ( a big yellow building), it says Salto on the windscreen.

It's not a massive waterfall, but it's the first one I've ever seen & you could get really close to it, after walking down through the tree top via 270 steps (getting back up is a killer).

It's the final stop on the bus, get off and keep walking straight in the direction the bus was going, till you can't get any further, the steps are located between some stalls.
