    Summer Time Heat

by jeffreywwato Written Jun 21, 2005

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

I went in late March and the heat and humidity was almost unbearable. With the amount of walking it takes to get to certain ruins the heat can really get to you. Make sure you bring a bottle of water with you. Our Tour bus had water for sale, so we bought some. You can bring the water inside the park too.

    Beware of Tourists!

In Chichen Itza I have been in early morning, that is the reason why there are not so many tourists on my photos. Around 11:00 o'clock the tourists from the cruise ships at Cancun or Playa del Carmen arrive. That is the time to avoid Chichen Itza! Or wait two or three hours, than they are gone again!

In most of the excavated Mayan cities in Yucatan you only go a few steps aside, then you are all alone!

    Don't trust well speaking Mexicans!

This guy came up to us, and was very nice, we got to know him, bought him a beer, he offered us drugs, we said No. I went back to the hotel but my boyfriend continued to drink with him. This man said he would even buy him the beers. He drank for awhile and then the bill came, and the man stood up and said 'Sorry', i have no money. The police came because Phil didn't have enough money to pay for both and had to escort him back to the hotel to pay for the drinks.
It was a scam, and this fellow is a well known alcoholic. He knew all about the area, and proclaimed to a be tourist guide. It was very disapointing, and allmost happened again in Merida, but we could see it coming this time.
