Guanajuato

by manil51

Guanajuato City is the Capital of the State of Guanajuato and is one of the most important historical and cultural colonial cities of Mexico. Guanajuato is a beautiful colonial city owes its fame and fortune to rich veins of silver and gold discovered by the Spanish many years ago. there are some interesting sites in the city and among them I can recomend a visit in:Diego Rivera Museum: The internationally renowned muralist Diego Rivera was born in this 18th Century colonial house. The museum houses the original furniture and items belonging to the artist and his family. A collection of Diego Rivera's works are also on display. Open Tuesday to Saturday 10:00am to 6:30pm and Sunday 10:00am to 2:30pm Mummy Museum: This museum is certainly one of kind. On display are 119 mummified bodies which have been preserved in perfect condition as a result of the high mineral content of the soil. Open...

Tule,Near Oaxaca

by manil51

At over 2000 years old, El Arbol del Tule, which is actually an Ahuehuete Cypress, is amongst the oldest living trees in the world. With a 10 meter diameter trunk it is also considered by many to be the broadest tree in the world. The circumference of the trunk is an amazing 54 meters It is over 40 meters high, boasts a foliage diameter of over 51 meters and weighs over 500 tons. The appearance of the massive tree is that of multiple trunks fused together. Recent DNA tests, however, suggest that it is in fact a single individual tree! The various contortions of the trunk give the appearance of the faces of goblins and monsters , elephants and jaguars! This great ahuehuete (Montezuma cypress) specimen is still alive and growing, as can be seen by the dense foliage reaching 43 meters into the sky! It only takes a few minutes to visit Tule and it is certainly worth the short visit.

Yelapa - Near Puerto Vallarta

by pampamjoyjoy

Take a boat to Yelapa Mexico, there are no roads that get you there, there are tour boats that go, or arange for your own shuttle. It is a very peaceful and small village on a bay. You can walk through the quaint town and see the tiny church, or to the waterfalls (which were dry when I was there, but I heard they can be nice). It is very peaceful, but I only had a few hours there, next time I would like to stay the night there (or maybe 2). One can arrange for a cabin in the wooded area or on the beach for minimal money (www.yelapa.info is a good site for this info).

Yaxchilan

by Enzyme_X

The adventure starts when you board a boat, lancha. The ride on the brown Usumacinto river, full of colourful birds and plants last one hour before you reach the ruins. Then the exploring starts. Yaxchilan will give you a feeling like being the firt one alive after many centuries to be there after many centuries. But Yaxchilan has still inhabitants. It is now home to monkeys, bats, spiders and many other creatures. I felt like an intruder in their home, desturbing their everyday life.Yaxchilan is really the place to go, not only for the ruins, but also for the setting. I loved it there. My Yaxchilan Page

Bonampak

by Enzyme_X

Ruins of the Mayan town Bonampak can not compete with some others in their largness or spectacularity, yet here you can find the best preserved frescoes in whole Mexico. Very few visitors come to Bonampak and it can happen that you'll have the whole site just for yourself. Dense jungle, wild animals you may see, add even more to the feeling that this place is really off the beaten path. My Bonampak Page

San Juan Chamula

by Enzyme_X

This village lies in the state of Chipas, near San Critobal De las Casas. It's famous for its church, where old traduitons mix with modern christianity. The visit to the church was very surprising. Something never seen before. Also kind of weird. And the village itself is a great place to see how locals acctually live. See people wear traditional, colourful clothes. It's a genuine experience. My San Juan Chamula Page
