Tacos Stands: Tacos

by Enzyme_X

Tacos are probably Mexicos most tipical meal. You can find it everywhere, on the street stands, small dumps and restaurants. Tacos is basicaly a bread pancake (tortilla) with different fillings. Chicken, beef, pork, sausage... And you can always choose between differnet additions. Salsa roja (red salsa) salsa verde (green salsa), onions, cactus, pineapple, beans... Tacos vary from region to region. Also in price, from 3-7 pesos.Nearly everyday I ate few, as a snack on the & by the way. The best tacos were in Palenque. Tacos al pastor. Grilled spiced meat (I think pork) with pineapple. I found Tacos al Pastor only in Chiapas.

Cocina Economica: Comida Corrida

by Enzyme_X

Mexican fcousine is great. It's no wonder it's one of the most popular throughout the world. If you want to check how it tastes in it's origin you don't have to go to some fancy restaurant and pay a lot for it. You can get delicious meals in many places that are cheap and look like hygiene is not a big issue. As long as locals eat there nothing can go wrong. You just search for places that have inscription ''Cocina Economica''. These are the places where you mostly see locals. You wont have much choise, but what is on a daily menu, ''comida corrida''. You can get the whole menu, 3 courses (soup, main corse, desert) for 30 pesos. Sometimes, drink is also included. Mole negro in Guanajuato

Claudia's: Killer shrimp lunches....

by mexicruiser

This restaurant is definitely a local hangout, and unless you have been told about this place, you wouldn't really even know that it existed. It is about as basic as they come, but the service was great, and the waitress very friendly. The camarones de ajo, sin cascara (garlic shrimp without shells) were served on a bed of rice, along with a nice little salad, and there were about 12 of these large and very tasty critters, all for the grand sum of roughly US$3.

Fresh food everywhere

by melosh

First start with freshness: Tomatoes rippened on the vine do not taste like tomatoes from the store. Tortillas made fresh the day they are eaten taste different from refrigerated tortillas. Fresh corn tortillas taste of corn! Salsas made of fresh ingredients taste different. So often, even when made with the same skill and proportions by Mexicans in the US, the food tastes different. Often things you know by name taste better in Mexico just because the ingredients are fresher and tastier. Second, there are herbs and other ingredients you can not even find in most Mexican stores in the US which are important to Mexican cuisine. Sopa Azteca without the fresh blue corn mold is not the same. Insect larve etc do not seem to reach the US. Even with peppers, the variety in Mexico does not reach the US. Fish etc can be different. Then there is the taste of a real Mexican bolillo (a bread roll)...

Pipi's: Pipi's -- Absolutely THE Best ! ! !

by nimmos

Without a doubt this is our favourite restaurant in Puerto Vallarta. We always go there on our first night in town, our last night in town, and maybe a few times in between. The food is good; the prices are resonable, and the peach margaritas are to die for! This is not fine dining - no gourmet meals here - just good Mexican food at a reasonable price. Did I mention that the peach margaritas are to die for! Large, flavourful, alcoholic, and reasonably priced!

Dulce de Chile: Miguelito

by AnnaLupilla

Ok ok, you got me ... Miguelito is not my lover. I tried to hide my obsession with it, but just doesn't work. Anyway ... every Mexican kid knows Miguelito, and wherever I go, I am laughed at for only little Mexican kids use to eat Miguelito. But I gotta tell you: it's the best "dulce" that comes with chile. Test it!

Drink: Clight

by AnnaLupilla

If you ever get bored by either orange juice or softdrinks from the Coca Cola Company, Clight is THE alternative:Easy to carry with you, as it comes in small bags as seen below, and various flavours, like mango, strawberry and whatsoever. All you need is a bottle of water, a package of CLIGHT and then SHAKE IT! My favorite flavors are ... MANGO of course and Fresa Silvestre

Tip Photo
Food stands: Mercado

by AnnaLupilla

Besides the fact that Mexican mercado's seem like museums, there are more options to get entertained there:Either you go there, to buy some fresh fruit and vegetables, bread and some fruit drink to prepare yourself a pic-nic, like mentioned WHEREVER on this page, or you just sit down on one of the food stands and have a fresh made Quesadilla, Panucho o salbute or whatever. - A provecho!

Bimbo: Pan, Panqué ...

by AnnaLupilla

Although not really healthy, Pan Bimbo and very often Panqué con Nuéz saved my life in México, when I was fed up with pollo (see 'food tip'). It often turned out to be a very good thing, to buy a Panqué for overnight bus-trips. We used to laugh a lot about Bimbo-Trucks, as in Germany it would be IMPOSSIBLE to name a brand "BIMBO" (which in German is despective like "nigger").

Hard Rock cafe: Eating in TJ, a safe bet

by df53

We went here for 1 reason and 1 reason only: it was a safe bet. We were only there for a day and didnt have time to look around for a decent place to eat. We did see plenty of places we didnt like the look of and to be honest if we went into didnt think we would make it out! I'll be the first to admit that it wouldnt be my first choice but having been to Hard Rocks all over the place it tends to guarantee a certain minimum standard if you are sure what to expect from the local places.
