Shrimp Bucket: Not a Veggie's Friend

by BizzareLove

I'm not sure about the food, I only ate quesodilla's while I was in Cancun (vegetarian). The atmosphere of the restaurant was great. The place is like a hut-like building with one big open-air dining area that spilled out onto the deck. We sat on the deck over the lagoon and had our dinner under the stars. Inside there was a live band playing Salsa music, and one of the employees grabbed me up from the table and gave me a quick lesson. I've never had so much fun! The bucket of Beer. It's a bucket filled with ice and a HUGE bottle of SOL. My guy also got a bucket of shrimp.. he said it was good.

Yaxche: Great Mayan cuisine

by Bunununu

This restaurant offers primarily Mayan cuisine. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. Outdoors under the stars is romantic. They have a kind of chili/potato soup that is incredible, and I can't remember it's name. The flaming coffee dessert is a MUST!

PV, Cabo, Cancún, Tijuana & Mexicali: International Cuisine

by spartan

In Puerto Vallarta try La Dolce Vita, Los Arbolitos, La Bodeguita Del Medio, PiPis Restaurant and Bar, Carlos O'Brians, Cheese Burger in Paradise, El Carbonson, or Chino's Pardiso. In Cabo San Lucas I would recommend Carlos & Charlies as well as La Palapa. And in Cancún I would also recomment Carlos & Charlies. All of the restaurants had their own unique character from the Cuban atmoshpere at La Bodeguita, to the extremely fast and customer oriented service at PiPis. The food was excellent and the surroundings were wonderful. Mariachi music, candlelight, dancing, noise, shots of tequila all made these restaurants something to behold. Paella (with curry, chicken, beef, pork and shrimp) and Cuban Rum/Coke at La Bodeguita Del Medio, Fillet Mignon at El Carbonson, Roasted Chicken topped with sauteed mushrooms (with fries and corn) at Cheese Burger in Paradise, the Mambo Combo at PiPis,...

El Sarape Restaurant & Bar: Don't miss this place

by spartan

Looks like a family run restaurant off the main street in Mexicali. The service is first rate, the food is delicious (you get a lot of it) and it's not expensive at all. To start the meal off, you are served tortilla chips and salsa. Then you get to choose from a huge menu that covers everything from beef, chicken, pork, veggies and seafood. I ordered the Puntas de Filete Albani (pronounced Al-ban-yee) which is diced beef fillet grilled over a bed of tortillas with green onions, bacon, mushrooms & chilies.

taco: Puerto Vallarta taco stand

by Nanumi

There's a stand on I.L. Vallarta as you head towards the Centro where taco is for a buck and once you buy there you have friends for life: they remember your name, greet you, make you feel accepted.Gayo usually hangs out there. Get him a taco, a beer or just be friendly to his little scrawny dog and he'll be your guide or friend there. He is a Huichol Indian born in Sierra Madre, schooled in PV. I suppose schooling reflected on on further developments of Gayo's life: he speaks fairly good English when sober and when not quite sober he tries to guide you through the imagery of Huichol thinking where all is magic. Gayo does not ask for anything - he's happy to keep you company. He's also a key to the local establishment...

by BorderHopper

La Fachada or Pepe's Restaurante & BarOf the two restaurants I've listed I like Pepe's the best for its good food and colorful atmosphere. The owner is an artist and displays his colorful, Dali-esque art on the walls of his restaurant. I have been stopping off at these restaurants for years and I always make it for breakfast. Try any of their traditional Mexican breakfast plates which will surely quell your hunger after the long drive from the US.

Jungle Juice: Dependable breakfasts

Well, I stayed at an All-Inclusive resort (pure luxury - ya gotta try it once!!), so we didn't have any real need to eat out... One time we did though - we went to a Mexican restaurant downtown... whose name escapes me... but there was a large statue of a cartoon lobster out front... At any rate, the food was delish. No matter where you go in Cancun, your waiter or your host wants to know your name and where you're from. I think that's kinda cool. The guacamole down there is to die for...

by pinganille

The peñas (inns) serve really good and very traditional Mexican food. That's typically where I eat when eating out in Mexico. The next best thing is to grap a taco or more in the street, a market or in a café - tasty, cheap and delicious:)The peñas are the place to experience Mexican culture and meet the Mexiacn people - every body from students over childrenfamilies to wealthy businessmen are to be find there, and all do they enjoy the food, the live music and the great atmosphere. Tacos al pastor - tacos with marianated pork meat and coriander, chopped onion and maybe pineapple. Also fajitas de pollo, pieces of chicken with hot sauce, vegetables and rice or potatoes.Another favourite is the seafood - yum! Not only the shrimps etc., but also the many different kinds of fish from the different lakes, some of them are even unique for Mexico!
