Take the Bus to Old Town in Puerto Vallarta

by culturedesigns

From the cruise port in Puerto Vallarta, if you follow the mass of people to the gates and then take a left you'll be walking toward the main road that runs N to S. You can let one of the MANY taxi drivers calling out to you, take you to old town OR for a much cheaper deal, walk to the main road(about a hundred yards) and catch the bus with the locals. It was less than a dollar to ride and the driver spoke English so if your not sure where to get off he can tell you. You immediately feel that you are in a foreign country, jammed into the bus like sardines, sweating like a pig, covered in dust, but don't get me wrong, this is what I love about traveling. The bus drops you off right past this bridge that crosses Rio Cuale. From there Old Town is from the South side of the bridge on.

Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe

by culturedesigns

While in Puerto Vallarta, visit the Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe. It's a beautiful church to see regardless of your faith. When you walk in all the noise and clatter of the outside world dies away and a wonderfully peaceful quiet takes over. It's not as gaudy as some Catholic churches I've seen in Mexico, though I will say the life sized wax figure of Jesus laying dead in a glass coffin kind of freaked me out. Otherwise a beautiful place to see.

TLAXCALA, CACAXTLA AND XOCHITECATL BY BUS

by marttonius

Hi Jean.Your choice to visit during your stay at DF is wonderful. Tlaxcala is a very nice city to visit you will really enjoy this trip. Here a useful link.http://www.descubretlaxcala.com/espanol/inicio.htmfirstly: How to get there without a car; you need to go to the TAPO bus station you should take the metro from COYOACAN (green line) to BALDERAS ( line 1 PINK LINE) and transfer towards dirección PANTITLAN, hop off at SAN LAZARO STATION and go into the bus station which is next to the metro, in fact, the exit of the metro is the entrance of the bus station.you should be careful as in any station, since there might be pickpockets so, be aware!!.look for the ATAH coach line to TLAXCALA try the primera clase bus.here is the link http://www.atah-bus.com/consulta/In Tlaxcala it will be much easier to take a cab to xochitecatl, also it will be fine to ask the driver to come back for you to...

The Rainforest

by traveldave

The mountains surrounding Puerto Vallarta are covered with thick, green rainforest, which is the classic "jungle" most people associate with the tropics. On Mexico's Pacific slope, the rainforest occurs from sea level to about 3,280 feet (1,000 meters). Rainforests are supported by plentiful rainfall throughout the year. They are characterized by a canopy of tall trees that can attain 100 feet (30 meters) in height, lianas and epiphytes, and a thick understory of palms. Since this was my first rainforest, I tried to take a hike into it, but it was so thick and impenetrable, and the weather was so hot and humid, that I had to give up. I decided that a cold drink on the breezy beach seemed like a better idea.

The Río Cuale

by traveldave

The Río Cuale flows from the surrounding Sierra Madre Mountains, through Puerto Vallarta, into Banderas Bay. In the evenings, cool air flows downward from the mountains through the river valley, making its banks a popular place to enjoy the cool evening air. The riverbanks in downtown Puerto Vallarta are lined with walkways, restaurants, outdoor cafes, shops, a craft market, and a museum.Farther upstream, visitors can take a mountain bike tour which passes through villages and ranches and ends up at a waterfall, ride on a mile and a half (two kilometers) of zip lines which cross 550 feet (168 meters) above the river, or take a hiking tour. Unfortunately, mud and silt from the highlands, as well as sewage from the hillside settlements, washes down the river into Banderas Bay. The water near the downtown area, therefore, is often dirty. To experience clear, blue water, it is necessary to...

Swimming with Dolphins

by Katieduck

Swimming with dolphins is an amazing experience. I didn’t really think about it until the opportunity came up. It is probably one of the best things I have ever done. I was a little nervous at first but dolphins are one of the most gentle animals in the world. You have to be careful how you touch them as you can hurt them. Their skin felt like very soft rubber. They are also very beautiful. This experience should be on your to do list.

Monte Alban.

by cachaseiro

Monte Alban is located in the Oaxaca province next to the town of Oaxaca. It´s an ancient site of the former zapotec empire that ruled southern Mexico for centuries and had their peak around 1500 years ago.It was an empire run by priests who on top of being good priests also were fantastic astronomers and you have the remains of an observatory at the Monte Alban ruins.I thought the site was really interesting and i would recommend that you spend at least half a day there and better a full day. It´s located on top of a mountain and the view from there is fantastic too.

Acapulco.

by cachaseiro

Acapulco is a town that devides the opinions of my mexican friends.About half of them like the place and the other half dislikes it.I can understand both opinions and mine is that it´s a pretty ok place, but i must admit that there are many other ceach towns in Mexico that are a lot nicer. It´s a busy resort town with all the facilities you can ask for a major resort and restaurants, cafes and night clubs are everywhere. The negative side is that it´s a resort that was build back in the 1960´s when people like Elvis Presley and John Wayne came down there to party and invest some of their money.Back then you didn´t have the city planning you have today and that meant that people build the hotels right on the beach and the busy highway is also way too close to the beach creating lot´s of traffic noise. These things also mean that you don´t have a proper promenade along the sea to stroll on...

Oaxaca.

by cachaseiro

Oaxaca is one of the most interesting cities in Mexico. It´s a pretty old colonial town with several indiginous tribes and lot´s of remains from ancient civilisations. It´s also a faily young town as the place has many educational institutions and there is a good bohemian vibe there that i really like. It´s also the capital in the state of Oaxaca so you have most of the administration of the state there. It´s good to use as a base for exploring nearby ancient zapotec sites aswell as it is a good region if you like mountaineering.

Baja california.

by cachaseiro

I have been twice to Baja, both times by bicycle. The nature there is really incredible and you feel like you are driving through a spagetti western with thousands of giant cactusses all over the place, especially in the southern part of the peninsula. This place is so much more than 5 star all inclusive resorts and i strongly recommend you to get out and enjoy the nature there.
