The pacific coast.

by cachaseiro

The mexican pacific coast is really nice and has a lot fewer tourists than Yucatan. It's more orientated towards backpackers and surfers and is therefor also cheap. The pacific coastline in the state of Oaxaca is particulary nice in my opinion and the vibe on most beaches is quite bohemian. The waves are also bigger on the pacific side of Mexico and therefor attracts a lot of surfers.

Mexico City.

by cachaseiro

Mexico City is a very interesting place. You have some of the best museums in the world and the place is very alive all the time. The Zocalo is always a great place to hang out if you enjoy the company of interesting types.Mexico City is in my opinion one of the most under rated cities in the world and i highly recommend at least 3-4 days in this amazing city.

Good family destinations in Yucatan.

by cachaseiro

Playa del carmen is a nice place if you are looking for a resort that still has a mexican feel even if there are many tourists.Isla mujeres is also very good if you want it a little more quiet and a bit more of a youngish feel to it.

Chiapas

by cachaseiro

Chiapas is a state with lot's of indians and it is very exotic. The best place to use as a base in my opinion is san cristobal de las casas. It's an old town with indian markets, lot's of churches and a good infrastructure.

Road runners.

by cachaseiro

One of the biggest suprises for me in Mexico was to see that road runners exsist for real.I always thought it was just a cartoon figure.Just take a drive through the northern part of mexico and you will probaply run over one of them. And i´m not kidding. They really spin their legs like wheels when they are running. The mexicans call them "corre caminos" by the way and one thing that is a little different from the cartoon is that they are grey and not blue like in the cartoon.

Mariachi music for free

by melosh

Music can be found all over Mexico. For years I always just listened to the music when purchased by others or when free in a restaurant. You should not feel a necessity to buy songs. Just enjoy. Of course, tips are appreciated. If you wish to "buy" a song or two, call over the group manager. It is nice to know the names of some songs not regularly requested by tourists. "El Rey" is a good choice because you can easily join in the refrain. My mother demonstrated a lesson about musicians at a cena (supper) she took the whole family to at a very high class romantically lit Mexican hotel restaurant in Oaxaca (at the Hotel Presidente ). There was a small mariachi group playing as part of the free entertainment. My mother announced that she could get the group to be play just at our table in five minutes. We wondered how she was going to do this as she spoke no Spanish. Her method was simple....

Culture of Maya People

by Paulo&Rosario

If you are going to Mexico it's very important to save a few days away from the beautifull seaside and visit some of the Maya sites. you can not imagine the culture of this people. It's breathtaking. When planning your trip plan to visit two or three Maya cities, it very cheap and you can even get a personal guide to tell you all about is people and culture (Tulum; Chichen Itzá; Uxmal - among others). Just to have an idea, they never had tool made of metal, everything they have done was rock carved with rock.

DIEGO RIVERA art

by pedroebc

The place Palacio Nacional in downtown Mexico city, in the interior, in the second floor, there are master wallpaintings of this bright mexican artist. He spent lot of time working in this murals for the legacy and concience of mexicans.also i recommend you to explore the back side of the building there documents and antiqueties of Benito Juarez one of the mexicans that this nation have had as president. At same palacio nacional great rooms with the history of mexico and old presidents.Museo Dolores Olmedo, Palacio de Bellas Artes, SEP building, Colegio de Chapingo, UNAM , Chapultepec park has great works of Diego Rivera.

Antropology museum

by pedroebc

this museum is one of the most visited attractions in Mexico city besides the pyramids of Teotihuacan, the place give you a general idea of the ancient civilizations, the mayan room, the olmec, the north civilizations, the mexica room (aztec empire), the teotihuacan, zapotecs, at least you will spend 2 hours there.its amazing to study the AZTEC CALENDAR recently I was reading more about it, you can see the 20 days of the month, the moon eating hearts, the sun with a pircing in the mouth, the 4 elements of earth, etc...I am still thinking if the vikings visit mexico and had contact with these cultures.I read recently in the ARQUEOLOGIA magazine " Escandinavian tales" inform the expeditions between XI and XIV century, norwegian settlers from Greenland were the possible first expeditionist that had contact with american natives, the viking village founded in L Anse aux Meadows,in Terranova,...
