This is a picture of me getting gas before our departure. No big deal right? Wrong! There had been a gas strike for three days in the state of Sinaloa (Mazatlan). All gas stations are run by los Federales, and all of the gas stations were shut down. When the gas strike was over, we had to wait for five hours in line to get a tank of petrol. It was pretty cool!

For most the boarder crossing would be a tourist trap, but for us, it was one hell of an adventure. In Nogales, at the boarder crossing, nobody stopped us. So I turned around and found that I was driving back into one way traffic. If you plan on driving deep into Mexico, you will not be stopped until about 10 miles past the border crossing. It is there that you will have to pay money for insurance, vehicle permit, and your tourist card.

The pyramids at Teotihuacan. Sure, it's a spectacular site, but all the tourists destroy the joy a bit, sorry. If you want to see pyramids and even more amazing ruins, it's better to go to Chiapas and Yucatán.

Be careful of the buses. Have exact change or they'll rip you off bad. Make a deal with the Taxi's, have exact change. They tend to think you should tip them for everything there. Specially if your an american.

Some of the resaurants in the nice locations downtown have 'adjusted' their prices to match what an American would pay for an moderately expensive meal in the States. However you will usually recieve excellent service and excellent food for what you pay.A lot of the shops (especially in the obvious tourist areas) have 'adjusted' their prices too. Remember to barter.
Caveat Emptor! Buyer beware! Be sure to haggle, sometimes you can get up to 75% off what the initial asking price is. Combine itmes for better prices. Check your merchandise before you buy it.Be prepared for propinas/tips.
mainly taxi drivers who can charge £20-30 to get to and from airport.Best to share a taxi if possible.Using metro on Mexico city can be dangerous - especially at Hidalgo station - as attracts many tourists and therefore thieves.
When shopping in Mexico, NEVER pay the asking price. Start with an offer of half the price and then bargain. Many times you can get something for half of what they want. If they won't come down - walk away. They'll call you back!
While this is sort of a tourist trap, it can be a pleasant trip as well. Just about every tour and time share person will sell you this trip that takes you to Los Arcos will also include a trek to the waterfalls. I can't remember the name of the this village (see pic) but often they will include a lunch at the open air restaurant here. When the time comes to get to the waterfalls they will try to sell you a horse telling you it is 2-3 miles...it's not!!! It's only a half mile pleasant walk in the country. When you get to the falls you can swim in the lagoon. they also have yet another cafe there that won't let you sit unless you buy something first. Overall, this excursion is worth viewing but just be aware of the constant attempts to separate you from your money!!!
