Since North America is such a broad topic, I'm not going to list anything specific. My advice would be to visit the big cities and famous landmarks, but also take the time to meet the people and experience the culture of this diverse continent.

Spearfish Canyon in Spearfish, South Daykota. Bring a water purification system and spend as long as you can while heading to Rapid City,to see the sites in and around there! It's about 70 miles outside Rapid city so ya might want to park and hike for a day or two before heading to the cities to see the points of interest such as;Mt.Rushmore,The Crazy Horse Monument and Custer National Park.

by felinity

The Territories! The Yukon and The Northwest Territories are full of untreked land. So many people have so many misconceptions of the territories that they miss out on the most beautiful experiences. I lived in the Yukon for about 1/2 a year and travelled as far north as the 'Top of the World'. The landscape is amazing, so clean and natural with abundant mountains, rivers, lakes and wildlife. If your interest is finding work, there is lots to be made up north!

Most foreigners miss what the US is about. You can't find out by visiting New York city, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, or any of the other big cities that everyone travels to. If you go to New York City, take a few days to go up to the Catskills. New Jersey looks like the biggest dump in the world, but if you stay out of the New York, or Philadelphia areas, it's a beautiful place to visit.

Texas is a beautiful place. I thought it would be all desert but the east is so green, fields of blue bonnet flowers and trees. People miss the real Texas. The people in Texas are all real characters as well and are so friendly. Go out to San Antonio and experience the Mexican influence. When in Hawaii, find the residential areas if you want to enjoy the best beaches undisturbed. For instance the Kahala neighbourhood where I used to live has beautiful quiet beaches.

by tmmcgrath

Having lunch with Jane Fonda (and Ted) at the Ptarmigan Tunnel...high on the trail, at the hiking tunnel through the pass passing between Many Glacier into Belly River. Our trail crew, after blasting the impassible snowdrift up there in '92...impassible for horses anyhow, hung around for Ted and Janes (with some Park honchos) ride from Belly River into Many Glacier. Ted's a real hoot. Jane was wearing somevery-very-very-very-very tight jeans.

If you ever visit the Greater Toronto Area (fondly known as the GTA), Tobermory is not to be missed. En route on Highway 10 north, you will travel through some Ontario's most beautiful countryside. Once passed Owen Sound the landscape changes into unspoilt wilderness. Great campsites up there. Tobermory is located on Lake Huron. There are some great national parks and caves to discover. This area is also known for scuba diving.
