Once in awhile take the back roads. Sometimes I've done this by accident by getting lost. Usually I've never regretted it. If you are in such a hurry that you need to take the Interstate the whole way, you may as well fly and save yourself some gas money.When you take the backroads, you will see what makes each area of the country different and unique. Visit the local antique stores and Mom and Pop restaurants. Drink in the local atmosphere, and I don't mean at the local pub.

Utah:Many people visit Utah to see the state and national parks, but miss white water rafting on the Colorado River. In Moab there are numerous companies that serve 1/2 day to 7 day river runs, try it, we did two days on rapids from 1-4 difficulty. My wife almost died of fright on the 4 rapids but admitted that it was fun.Even if you dont ride, try out the mountain biking there as Moab and its slickrock trails is know as a mecca for mountain bike riders, take an easy trail and see some of the country where cars dont go.Goblin Valley State Park - missed by most people, but the sandstone formations are weird and while wandering around in the park you get a strange sense of otherworldliness.

If in California, the coastline is a must see. Take highway 1 North from San Francisco. You will see some incredible ocean views. A couple of beaches along the way are worth stopping at. If you make it far enough North be sure to check out Mendocino a small but quaint artist and fishing town.

You have never relaxed until you spend the night on a boat in the middle of the lake, my favorite lake is Lake Eufala where we have 'House boat by night and a pontoon by day'.Lake Eufala is located in the southeastern part of Oklahoma I don't know if they have an web address.But it has = Fountainhead state Park and Arrowhead State Park, just to name two, and several otherCamping areas, both tent and RV'S. The best bit of advice i can give to those travellers heading to USA is to get off the beaten track. Forget the big cities they all look alike and eventually you tend to forget which one your actually in!!. Auto driveaway cars are fantastic and lets you see the real America as in the small towns that tourist companies dont let us see. It is here that you will discover the real America and its wonderful way of life.
