While it's hard to put your finger on what exactly North America food is (it's not as clearly defined as something like Indian food), there's no doubt that you can get top quality cuisines from all over the world. In major North American cities, it's possible to have a different type of food every day of the year.

Beer, I'd have to say, is not as good as in Europe. There are so notable exceptions, but overall, the quality is not as high. However, you can get almost any kind of beer from all around the world, so don't worry!

Wine, on the other hand, is excellent. California is not the only wine making region of North America. With a little research, you can find excellent wines from all over the place.

    Why not try eating anywhere...
  • Tip Rating:
  • Why not try eating anywhere except at chain restaurants for a while. First of all , the food won't be worse; likewise the prices. More importantly, you will get out from under the impersonal shroud that covers the American freeway-driving experience. The local restaurants and cafes of Main-Street America are full of life and warmth, personalities and characters. People talk to each other, exchange the latest gossip, even ask strangers where they're from and where they're going. It may take you 15 minutes extra to leave the freeway, drive into town, and find a restaurant, but you're likely to observe more about that region over your meal than you could discover by eating for a week at the interstate chain restaurants. Look for the ordinary cafes where America and its people can still be seen 'in the rough': farmers, truck drivers, local businessmen, ranchers, salesmen, housewives, waitresses.

Pier 23 Restaurant: Pier 23 Restaurant
  • Tip Rating:
  • It's on the water. They have lot's of seating outside. This hang out draws a 25+ crowd. 2 nights out of the week they have live bands. It's a fun happening place. On Wed. they have a live Salsa Band. My favorite night. It's good food, reasonably priced, great atmosphere and a great view of the Bay Bridge when your seated outside. You can also just go there for a beer. It's a restaurant/bar.

    Shrimp quesadillas and Coronas!!

  • Tip Rating:
  • In East Glacier, Montana...the Two Medicine Grill, the only resturant in town open year-long. There are several resturants with better food, a more varied menus open here in the summer...some grand bakery to be had...but to get a feel of the local character this place is best.
