Frank C. Turner Memorial

There is also a memorial on the courthouse grounds dedicated to Frank C. Turner who served the justice system in the county for 31 years from 1905 till his death in 1936.

On the courthouse grounds, there is a nice memorial dedicated to Washington County Veterans who gave their lives in service to their country; and a civil war memorial too.

Chatom is a small town of almost 1300 located in rural Southwest Alabama. The population has grown by 8% since 2000. Chatom is kind of "off the beaten path" as it is not on any major highways. Chatom is the county seat of Washington County. The Washington County Courthouse is relatively new; and prettier than many of the newer monstrosities we build now. washington County was established in 1800 and was the first county in what would become Alabama. Washington County included all the land for what is now 26 counties.
