rooster hall was originally a presbyterian church built in 1843. when union troops occupied demopolis at the end of the civil war they converted the church into the marengo county courthouse. demopolis was the county seat of marengo county from 1868 to 1871. between 1876 and 1902 rooster hall was leased by the demopolis opera association. today this historic building is used for public meetings.

smokin jack's is a good bar-b-que restaurant located on highway 80 in downtown demopolis. i had the pork bar-b-que which was good but not outstanding. the service was excellent and since it is the only bar-b-que restaurant that i know of in demopolis i would recomend it.
