In the downtown area, there is a nice memorial/plaza dedicated to those who have served in the U.S. Military, and to citizens of the town of Florala past, present and future

Florala is a town of just under 2000 located in southeast Alabama along US Highway 331 near the border with Florida. Florala's name came from combining Florida and Alabama. One of the first settlers in the area was James Edward Hughes who came here in 1865. Florala was incorporated in 1901. Alabama's largest lake, Lake Jackson, is in Florala. The lake was named after Andrew Jackson who camped on its shore in 1818 when en route to Pensacola. Florala has a nice historic district with a few buildings of historical and/or architectural interest.
