Favorite thing: This area, Huntsville, Cullman is really nice. Mountains, lakes, and the Tenn. river. It's a very clean place from what I could see in the little time I spent there. It's what the rest of America should be like, well governd and a high standerd of living. In this area one can get by without making a lot of money. A house like mine would cost at least 75% less there and I would pay about 80% less in taxes. OK, for those who want the #s it would mean I'll pay maybe $150K for a house and $1K a year for taxes there see below. That's why so many people retire there!
Fondest memory: The people, they are much more friendly then people in NY, NJ.

Favorite thing: After you see the museum in Huntsville, take time to go to Space Camp. They offer a 5 day program for young people aged at least 9, and in the 4th grade. tuition includes all meals, lodging (bunk-bed style dorm rooms) and program materials.
Here are some of the kids at the Space Camp in action.
They also have programs for adults.

Favorite thing: There's a lot more than the Rocket Garden to see at Huntsville. There are exhibits inside that should not be missed. It would have been nice if we could have explored the simulators but they were reserved for the kids attending Space Camp. Something you can do is make use of the Apollo Command Module simulator. If you have seen movies of men inside this capsule, you may be surprized at how little room there really is. Something that caught my attention was a huge piece of equipment that contained the computers, sensors, and telemetry equipment that made up the 'brain' of the Saturn 5 rocket.

Favorite thing: Visit the U.S. Space and Rocket Center. It offers lots of attractions, best of which is the Saturn V Rocket that took man to the moon. There is an IMAX theater, and for the intrepid, a rock climbing experience called the Mars Climbing Wall.

Favorite thing: Visit the Regions Bank. Overlooking what is called the Big Spring, it was built in 1835, and is to be found on the Register of Historic Places. It is an architecurally beautiful building, probably one of the best in Huntsville.
The Big Spring that it overlooks was used (prob. a hundrd years ago) as a mode of getting things from and to Huntsville. Looking at the size, it seems kind of difficult as to how it was managed (Maybe the people were smaller back then :-)!!)

Favorite thing: Alabama Space and Rocket Center is a great place to visit while in Huntsville. Also, if you like Mexican food, the place to go is Rosies Cantena located on University Dr.
Fondest memory: I live 20 miles from Huntsville and make a trip there about every week. There are great places to eat in the city. Also my niece lives there.

Favorite thing: Visit the Space Museum, it was fun. I really didn't like this city, and like I said earlier, spend most of my time out in the rural Alabama fishing.
