this beautiful ante bellum home is one of a number historic homes and buildings in downtown marion. the town of marion was untouched during the civil war thus saving it's collection of ante bellum homes. for those interested in architecture and southern culture marion is a worth while side trip off of highway US 80 in west central alabama.

the historic perry county courthouse was built in 1856. the perry county courthouse became internationally famous for the 1958 trial of jimmy wilson. jimmy wilson was a black handyman who stole $ 1.95 from esteele barker, a white woman. during the trial barker testified that wilson had spoken to her in a disrepectfull tone. the all white jury convicted wilson and he was sentenced to death. word of the verdict spread all over the world and the u.s. state department was swamped with protest letters. secretary of state john foster dulles intervened in wilson's behalf and his sentence was commuted to life imprisonment. wilson was finally paroled in 1973.

$11 as of June 2012. This is a small town store that offers a fixed menu all you can eat buffet. The Tilapia was a bit dry; but the veggies were good and the people were great. Really made you feel at home. Take some time to look around the store after you eat, and talk to the people that work there. Hours are 7 AM to 6 PM Monday through Saturday.

Favorite Dish: Tilapia, broccoli, rice with spinach, potatoes au gratin.
