 | Mobile Nightlife | Tips 1 - 10 of 12 | | Popular Nightlife | Other Nightlife Tips | All Tips (12) The Florabama, appropriately named, is on the border of Florida and Alabama. It's a huge, multi-room, multi-atmosphere bar. More than anything, it's funny. You have such a range of people there, mostly people who have lived in Alabama/the panhandle of Florida their whole lives. I like this place because you can go outside, down onto the beach, dance, drink, listen to music, play games...do everything.
No real dress code. in the summer, it's going to be HOT and humid, so you're better off w/ shorts, short skirts or dresses... As you board the battleship and reach the top of the gangway, proceed straight ahead and 'log aboard' at the #3 TURRET. Visit this turret and examine the plaques on both sides. The wartime history of the ship is displayed on the plaques on the starboard (Mobile Bay) side of the 16'/45 caliber gun turret. Each gun shoots accurately to 21 miles. Theme: Other

Here are some more of my favorites. And let me just say that I also have to have decent food to eat, too. Also, service is terrible in Mobile everywhere. We are in the midst of a severe shortage of labor in all those areas. I think they are doing the best they can, so relax and still give a decent tip. Liquid- on Dauphin Street by Wintzell's. Wonderful Sushi, awesome atmosphere, and all my favorite alternative music from the 80's played not too loudly. If you have a group , you'll need to make reservations. They do have a courtyard. Try the Sante Fe roll. There is also Samuri J's on Bienville Sq. which I've heard is also good, but I'm loyal to Liquid. Battle House's new bar (street level) on Royal Street. Well-heeled locals. They serve food from the Trellis Room, but it is pricey. It is beautifully served even if most of us don't know what we are ordering! Tuscan Bean Soup is good although small ($9! & that's the least expensive). Maybe you should just drink here. Hero's is a good spot with outside seating overlooking beautiful Cathedral Square (Dauphin & Jackson Street). Sandwiches, etc. Drayton Place is long gone, replaced by Cafe Royal..Haven't been yet. In the Oakleigh Garden District: Callaghan's Irish Club- have best burgers in town & I like their Grilled Cheese sandwiches. Special atmosphere here, corner of Marine/Charleston (about 3 blocks from Government St.)Sunday nights they have music. A lot of locals go here, but you will be welcome here. Look for my favorite photo on the wall: the one with two well-dressed older ladies with pearls in the 60's out for a ride in their boat. My grandmother did stuff like that. Guidos (corner of GEORGE/Savannah- 3 blocks from Government St.) has great food (Italian with Coast Creole influences) and now has a bar up in the attic.
Again, dress up. But you'll see people in all kinds of things. Theme: Eating and Drinking

A lot of the older 35-45 year old crowd comes here. The drinks are very good, albeit pricey ($8-9) and they have entree-tizers. My favorite is the spinach dip with fried bow tie pasta. There will usually be a loud piano player. Nice , well-done interior. There are cool and cozy leather couches but they go quickly. Upstairs is the small dance club, Club Retro, and you can go out on the balcony to survey the fun Dauphin Street street scene below. It's like New Orleans Bourbon Street used to be before it got all touristy. Club Retro used to be a secret and we would have so much fun up there but now more people know about it. There are several other bars in this area to check out. Boo Radley's is also good, but i prefer Martini's. I wish there were more bars like this one. It's not a singles scene downstairs, so women could go there and feel safe, but I guess may be upstairs.

There aren't that many places in west Mobile that are just bars. And even fewer I'd recommend, but this is a great place. i have no picture of it for some reason--we took one last time we were down there but I'm not sure if I deleted accidentally or what...but it's just a little bar in a strip mall. Strange place for a bar, but whatever...it's truly a fun place. There's nothing special about it other than it IS just a bar--somewhat unusual for Mobile. There are lots of clubs, martini bars, billiards places, restaurants/bars...but in Midtown, you'll find so few laid back, sit down, enjoy a drink and company with friends places. This is THE place!
Casual--another thing that's somewhat a rarity if you're going out in Mobile Leave a Comment Theme: OtherAddress: Airport BlvdPhone: 251-343-7711Directions: Once you've passed I-65 on Airport, turn onto the west Service Road, it's in a plaza on the west bound side.

I've only been once, but the food is so good. Reasonable. Eat here then go next door to Veet's bar for music and dancing. They don't serve food after 12 midnight.
