What can I say about this mode of transportation. It was educational, informative and fun! It was only 25 cents to ride it and to top it all off, I got a tour of Montgomery from it. Plus it was air-condition. Heck, the windows where so clean I was able to snap pictures from them and they came out pretty dang good! My tour/bus guide was wonderfully informative of history and times of Montgomery. He pointed out so much historical facts that I had never known about and more historical areas to visit that are not in the brochures. So, you can't miss this ride.

Located at the Union Station Vistor Center, but you can get onto anytime when it is stopped at the designated bus stops.

Another wonderful mode of transportation. It was only 25 cents to ride also and it gives you a tour of Montgomery from it and it was air-condition. Very clean and comfortable. My tour/trolley guide was informative of history of Montgomery. I had to giggle about this ride, because they called in the lightening route trolley.

The Lightning Route Trolleys offer shuttle service along two fixed routes in Downtown Montgomery. These trolleys are replicas of the nation's first electric streetcar system that began in Montgomery in 1886.

All-day passes can be purchased at the Montgomery Visitor Center in Union Station for only $1.00, or one way fares may be purchased from the driver for only 25 cents. On the trolly which I rode the driver was very knowledgeable and obviously proud of his city. He gave us an excellent historic commentary along the entire route. This is the perfect way to tour downtown Montgomery, beginning at the Visitor Center, without the hassle of parking.

In 1886, America's very first electric street car system was inaugurated here on the streets of Montgomery. This authentic old electric streetcar can be seen behind the Union Depot in the train shed. Visitors can climb on board and view the rich wooden interior with long benches down each side. The conductor could operate the streetcar from either end, making it possible to change directions without turning the street car around.

    Open Daily; free admission.

  • The best way to get to Montgomery is by time machine, because these 'Deliverence' extras are stuck somewhere in the late 1970's in their mind set and even dress code.
You might try the public buses that are so old that Rosa Parks wouldnt even get ON one, let alone walk off of one. Short of that, drive your pickup. Everywhere. Seriously. Get in the car and to go to the end of the driveway to get the morning paper. No one walks in this chunk-a-roo of a town.

Montgomery has a modest airport with regional service (Airport Code: MGM), located a few miles southwest of downtown on U.S. Route 80. Four airlines fly to the airport: Atlantic Southeast and Pinnacle Airlines (affiliates of Delta Airlines) from Atlanta and Memphis respectively, U.S. Airways from Charlotte, and American Eagle (an American Airlines affiliate) from Dallas-Fort Worth.

The airport has an ATM, a coffee shop ("Montgomery Muggs") inside security, and a small food court (including a Subway sandwich shop) outside security on the second floor. At the airport, you can rent a car from Hertz, Avis, Budget, Thrifty, National, and Alamo. To get downtown from the airport, turn right (east) on U.S. Route 80, then take Interstate 65 north. Montgomery Area Transit System (MATS) buses are scheduled to depart the airport for downtown hourly (though I've personally never seen one at the airport). A taxi downtown will cost $15-$25, depending on where you're going.
