One Way Streets!

Something that everyone has to remember when visiting historical cities. One way streets are always present, so pay attention. Yet, sometimes the one-way signs were not always visible because of where they were position or an over grown tree or bush. So, I looked at the direction of the parked cars to help if I was not sure. Just take your time, do not be intimidated by the driver behind you! Safety first!

This was the only really bad thing I did encounter in Montgomery. They run red light religiously. It was so bad. I was not happy about it, but it became a apparent when I was either walking around or driving around it happened at least two to three times each day of my visit. So, before you leap at a green light, wait a few seconds or look both ways before you go!

I thought these were neat. I saw these in DC and think they are an excellent idea. They had them all in the downtown area. Gives you what time to expect crossing some streets.

Don't Even Think About Parking Here!

    Governor's Parking Spot
    at the State Capitol

Even though his space was empty on the day of my visit to the Alabama Capitol, I wouldn't recommend parking in the Governor's spot. GRIN!

Actually, I have found both driving and parking within downtown Montgomery to be quite easy. On my most recent trip to Montgomery, on a Thursday in early December, I spent most of the day here and was surprised at how uncrowded the streets were. However, when I left the city around 4:30 p.m. I encountered major traffic congestion along the roads leading out of town.

  • *You may be hanged.

*If you don't like meat, steer clear of this town. Everything is deep fried and full of bacon. Green beans with bacon, corn muffins with bacon, milk shakes with bacon ...

*The South may rise again when you are there and you Yanks will be in big trouble if it does. Good thing it's so effing hot and they are so lazy in Montgomery that it'll never happen.

  • Montgomery does have it's down-side, but, hey, what doesn't? The crime rate is a little on the high side, but don't let that scare you. Just stick with a group and stay away from places that make you feel unsafe, or listen to your friend's warnings, that helps, too.

    Fire Ants

  • Do not walk in a field, a yard, the forest, or just beside the road with your head facing forward.

You must look at the ground at all times to avoid stepping on a Fire Ant hill and having your day ruined by hundreds of unruly Ant bites. They don't call them fire ants because they feel good.
