Summer is Hot and Humid but Winter Can be Cold!

by Stephen-KarenConn

Summers in Alabama are long, hot and humid. Some folks coming from the north expect Alabama to be warm in winter, and sometimes it may be, but the weather is variable. Winter weather can dip to the single digits on occasion, although it usually doesn't stay very cold for more than a few days at a time. I have seen New Year's Day in this part of the country reach 70 F, and I have also seen it dip to zero, so be prepared for any eventuality. Sunny weather often prevails, but intense summer thunderstorms are common. In winter it may sometimes rain steadily for days. Northern Alabama usually gets a snow or two during a typical winter, and the southern part of the state may experience an occasional snowfall. Ice storms are perhaps more frequent than snow. It is best to be prepared for any eventuality. Unless you are already familiar with Alabama, you may be surprised at how beautiful the...

A good CD and some lyrics are always right for a road trip. And there is more than Lynard Skynard when it comes to songs about Alabama. To get into the real 'Alabama mood' I recommend Alan Jackson´s 'Midnight in Montgomery'. Here is part of the song text:'Midnight in Montgomery Silver Eagle lonely road... I was on my way to Mobile for a big New Year's Eve show... I stopped for just a minute to see a friend outside of town... Put my collar up I found his name and felt the wind die down... And a drunk man in a cowboy hat took me by surprise... Wearing shiny boots a Nudi suit and haunting haunted eyes... He said friend it's good to see you it's nice to know you care... Then the wind picked up and he was gone... Or was he ever really there... It's midnight in Montgomery... Just hear that whipporwill... See the stars light up the purple sky... Feel that lonesome chill... When the wind is...

Pack what you think you will absolutely need. Save trunk space for recreational accessories such as floats, beach balls, etc. Take the most comfortable shoes you have. If you're visiting in the summer, you will need to pack mostly shorts, t-shirts, and swim suits. For dining out, only casual wear will work great. Plenty of sun screen!! Spf 30 is the way to go. While you may want a great looks of a tan you don't want the pain of a sun burn. There are plenty of stores that sell film, batteries, etc. However, be prepared to pay more on the beach. Shopping for these items at home is a great idea. At the beach, you will definately need a beach ball, frisbee, and/or sand toys. Even adults enjoy buiding sandcastles. The texture of the sand makes it easy to create a masterpiece. Many motels provide easy beach access. when you make your reservations be sure to ask if it's on the beach or...

If you head out in the summer (recommended for great weather), then definitely bring sunscreen, shorts, a hat, and a fishing pole to totally enjoy life for however long you decide to stay. A tent would have been great to have for camping at the many sites along a lot of their rivers and lakes, that way you get a fresh start at the early morning fishing.
