Summer is Hot and Humid but Winter Can be Cold!
Summers in Alabama are long, hot and humid. Some folks coming from the north expect Alabama to be warm in winter, and sometimes it may be, but the weather is variable. Winter weather can dip to the single digits on occasion, although it usually doesn't stay very cold for more than a few days at a time. I have seen New Year's Day in this part of the country reach 70 F, and I have also seen it dip to zero, so be prepared for any eventuality. Sunny weather often prevails, but intense summer thunderstorms are common. In winter it may sometimes rain steadily for days. Northern Alabama usually gets a snow or two during a typical winter, and the southern part of the state may experience an occasional snowfall. Ice storms are perhaps more frequent than snow.
