Cracker Barrel by RhondaRuth You can get good downhome cooking here. There are a number of them throughout Alabama. We went to the one in Bessemer we enjoyed the food and looking around the store before being seated. After dinner we sat in the rockers on the front porch enjoying the moment! Terrific prices in the store also!!
We only ate here the one time, so I haven't picked a favorite dish. Maybe once we've been back a few more times, I'll have a special faviorite. What I did have this time was good Southern cooking. Try it out! Leave a Comment

Sante Fe Cattle Company by RhondaRuth Steaks and Ribs are their specialty!
I can't say enough about the "all you can eat peanuts" and the yeast rolls! Super rolls!! Only I can't eat all that many, LOL! I had a GREAT steak here also. We ate at the one in Bessemer, but I understand that the one in Pelham is also very good! Leave a Comment

Kalico Kitchen, Marion, Alabama by Stephen-KarenConn One of the things I enjoy most about traveling the back roads of the United States is the discovery of local eateries such as the Kalico Kitchen. Almost every small town has one - a place where businessmen in suits and ties, laborers in dirty overalls, the Lions Club and the Ladies Garden Club all come out for lunch. In fact, don't show up for dinner, because they close at 2:00 p.m. However, for breakfast and lunch the Kalico Kitchen can't be beat. I decided to stop when I saw the parking lot plum full of cadillacs, jalopies, and pick-up trucks. Kalico Kitchen is open 6 a.m. - 2 p.m. Tuesday - Sunday (Closed Monday). Judy Deason, Manager
For only $4.95 you can have the lunch buffet, which includes pan fried chicken done right, plus a beef/potato casserole, collard greens, sweet potatoes, blackeyed peas, salad fixin's, cornbread, chocolate pudding and more. Don't forget the freshly brewed sweet iced tea for only $1.00, with all the free refills you can drink. We were searching for a place to eat when we came across this cute little hut. There were tables outside. The owner or manager was sitting at one of these tables and greeted us as we walked in. Our waitress was wonderful. She brought our children's entrees out while we were eating our salads. I have never seen such thoughtfulness before. The food was superb, Our steaks were generously cut and melted in our mouths. The gumbo was awesome. The stuffed shrimp and stuffed crab were scrumpious! My favorite was the grouper, it was succulent! Everyone was very pleasant. This is the best food I have ever eaten. I highly recommend it.
I definately loved the grouper. It had a golden breading and the flavor was undescribeable. The gumbo and the steak were incredibly delicious also. Leave a Comment Theme: SeafoodPrice: US$11-20 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageDirections: Gulf Shores

Tiger Pause by Basaic Tiger Pause is a coffehouse located in one of the buildings comprising the Tuskegee Historic District. They serve a wide variety of coffees, teas, smoothies, ice cream and light food. The food includes turkey chili, turkey sandwiches and home made soups. Unlike some places they have heard about the ongoing cholesterol problem and the items they serve are low fat and low cholesterol. The peope working there were nice, too.
Try the sweet potato pecan bread pudding and some coffe or herbal tea. Theme: CoffeehousePrice: less than US$10 » Currency ConverterComparison: less expensive than averageAddress: 117 Westside Street, Tuskegee, AL 36083Phone: (334) 727-1007Directions: Just across the street from Tuskegee Park
