Hiking at Chewacla State Park

by Basaic

There are several hiking trails throughout the 696 acre park. The one the ranger recommended, and that I hiked, was the trail to the falls. It was fairly short but steep at times and had rough footing. The falls was kinda nice though. Good walking shoes, water, sunscreen a hat. Don't forget the bug repellant.

Hiking at Horseshoe Bend National Military Park

by Basaic

There is a 2.8 mile nature trail in the park. Most of the other trails lead to exhibits about the park and are relatively short, paved, and handicapped accessable. Good walking shoes, a hat, sunscreen, water, bug repellant.

Boating on the Tallapoosa River

by Basaic

There is a boat ramp giving access to the Tallapoosa River right next to the Miller Bridge on the edge of the Horseshoe Bend National Park. The Tallapoosa is fairly wide and makes for decent boating. You are not supposed to fish except for from the area by the boat ramp.

Here's a nifty little par three

by zrim

Robert Trent Jones designs are going to feature big multi-tiered greens and intimidating approach shots to greens guarded by bunkers and water. The layouts are fair, but at the same time most challenging. The green's fees are very affordable, especially if you go during off peak periods or as part of a package. Great value for your money. I believe that carts are mandatory and with some of the elevation changes, that's probably a good thing.

Swim in Chewacla Lake

by Basaic

There is a small area set aside for swimming and wading. The water can be very refreshing on a hot summer day in Alabama. Swim trunks (skinnydipping is discouraged)
