Hiking along the mountain ridges in Gates of the Arctic National Park.
Gates of the Arctic is the northern most US National Park. The geography is amazing. Walking on the tundra is a unique experience-like walking on a big sponge. Would love to go back and float along the John River sometime.
Large herds of caribou migrate near Anaktuvuk Pass during a specific time of the year which is a spectacular sight. Unfortunately they were not there when I visited.
Meet the friendly in-land Nunamuit eskimos who will bring you around their village and thier culture.
Located just outside the village is a cemetery which is built along the brooks range. Because of the harsh environment, the cemetery is kept simple.
Because of the cold weather, there is no need for any refrigerators here. Food are kept in underground storage compartments where they can be preserved for a long time.
