The only public transportation to Atka is a twice weekly flight from Dutch Harbor. They fly a four-seater Navaho or, if the number of passengers warrants it and the plane is available, a 16-seater Metro. Like most Alaskan bush communities, each plane is met by a herd of four wheelers. The only other way to get there is by your own boat.
The Russians owned Alaska and dumped it on the Americans after the sea otter population had been harvested.
