The Outpost is a cute gift shop with alot of cool stuff...not really the normal tourist shop. It does have bumper stickers, and other tourist stuff, but lots of art, jewelry, which the owners make, and nice shirts, hats ,etc. And of course chickens...
What to buy: The sign says get your chicken in Chicken...so I looked, but although there were lots of cute chickens, I bought a dancing chicken t-shirt, the book Tisha (about a school teacher that came to Chicken in the gold rush) and a beautiful gold nugget pendant...had to splurge after I got the gold fever panning!
What to pay: There are some inexpensive things and some very nice higher end things. I was eyeing a few things that I had to take a "rain-check" on.
This gift and souvenir shop, which specializes in Chickenana, was doing a bustling business when I was there. A tour bus operated by one of the major cruise lines had just dropped off 40 tourists at the emporium's doorstep. It seemed that everyone on board wanted a Chicken tee shirt, or some other momento of this unique and isolated stop on their tour.
What to buy: I bought a refrigerator magnet for our collection and a postcard to send my beautiful wife, Karen. What else?
