    Eagle River Nature Center

I love the Eagle River Nature Center!

Start off at the log cabin visitor center (you'll need to pay a $5 parking fee in here). You can get little map print outs and see some of the educational displays. Then, onto the trails!

There are 4 main trails; Rodak Trail, Albert Loop Trail, Dew Mound Trail, and Crow Pass Trail (also known as Iditarod Trail). The Rodak Trail is only 3/4th of a mile and is an easy walk. It goes down to the salmon viewing deck which is a great spot for photos and then heads back to the visitor center. The Albert Loop trail is 3 miles and heads towards the water. I have yet to be on this trail because they close it down during August-October months (because of bears eating the salmon). Once they re-opened the trail I was half way into my pregnancy and not feeling up for outings...I'll do it eventually. The Dew Mound Trail is a mixture of different smaller trails, so depending on which one you take it can be a little different each time. It's a bit more narrow than the others and there was a lot of vegetation overgrowth...which was kind of nerve racking. There could have been a bear 3 feet from me and I wouldn't have known because the grass was so tall and thick. The Crow Pass trail is the mega trail...it's 25 miles! It covers lots of various situations such as dirt paths with trees to river crossing to glaciers. Haven't done this yet but we will!

This great visitor's center has many exhibits and information about the valley. It's also the gateway to Chugach State Park.
