Pick your way through the Chugach mountains and come to a small slice of Heaven in Eklutna Lake. A state park, Eklutna lake is a 7 miles long lake, located in a Glacier Carved valley just 10 miles from the Glenn Highway.
Stop in for excellent local flavours of ice cream (not fishgut.. more like arctic _____). The general store will tide you over until you get back on the main drag! Rochelle has been in this same spot since 1982!
Favorite Dish: Try the strawberry, it's super!
Watch out on the way to the park, the road is not paved yet and is VERY rough for about 15% of the trip! Enjoy the scenery and note the private property driveways along the way. Some how or another individuals have private land bits in this native holding/ state park area!
Luggage and bags:
Whatever you take your camping gear in
Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Summer is in the 70s, shorts are great, but something to keep the wind of is well too
Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Toilets are provided, paper as well.
Camping/Beach/Outdoor Gear: Lake provides mulitude of uses, kayaks, rafts, swimming... so bring gear!
After you arrive at the state park, there is a 15 mile trail to the bottom of a Glacier! Bring supplies, it's rather remote!
