Racing on the frozen Chena River by Aurora907 Busy time of year...for the dogs!!! There are many dog mushing events in February and March, not just the Iditarod and Yukon Quest. One of my favorites, are the Open North American Sled Dog Races, as they take place over a 3 day period and the course follows routes in and around Fairbanks.
Be sure to dress in layers, and be prepared for temperatures as cold as 30 degrees BELOW zero, F. However, it could also be 30 degrees ABOVE...so layers are a must! Leave a Comment Theme: Sports WatchingAddress: Downtown FairbanksDirections: On the frozen Chena River

30 April 2005 by Aurora907 End of April, beginning of May is a great time to float the Chena River. The water level is high, there are many young wild animals to be seen along the riverbanks, and there are several fun local spots to hit on the way down to catch a drink, warm up with coffee, etc.
There are several ways to aquire a canoe, kayak, raft, boat, life vests, etc. "Test the Waters" is a great place to stop if you'd like to rent a water-recreation vehicle. They are located at 1511 Richardson Highway and you can call them ahead of time at 907-490-4444. TestTheWaters Leave a Comment Theme: Boating/Sailing

If you have a bike, bring it...or you can rent one from several businesses in town. There are several bike paths in and around town. Our city buses can each accomodate up to 2 bicycles at a time, too.
If you're riding at night, wear something reflective. A helmet would be good too, especially if you hit the trails behind the University (cross country ski trails in the winter, good hiking path in the summer). Recreation Center of UAF is good place to train any kind of sport from climbing to aerobics and yoga. This great complex is pretty cheap 75$ / semester for students, i don't know how much is one time there. If you visit in Fairbanks, check Recreation out. At Patty Center you can swim or play ice hockey.
Gym with weight lifting are, ligter areas with dumbbells, mirror hall, tread mills, steppers, cycles, rowing machines, climbing wall, basket and volley ball areas. Leave a Comment Theme: OtherAddress: at UAF

Phil Russell-Yukon Quest 2000 by RSeppeler Here is a picture of Charlie's brother as a rookie in the 2000 Yukon Quest. He finished 19th out of 21. At least he didn't carry the red light. Leave a Comment Theme: Extreme Sports

by RSeppeler If you love to golf, you must play here. It is basically a moose pasture....on the first hole, a large moose walked across the fairway. We ran into her again on the 11th tee. She must have had a little one nearby. Leave a Comment Theme: Golfing

by Scandic Fairbanks differ from Anchorage, great outdoor posiibilities are not in your backyard. But you'll find nice places to hike, when you search little bit. Creamer's Field is a recreation are at College Road. Most people know this place, because it is famous at Fall time when hundreds of birds rest there at field. There are nice trails and in winter time skijoring is a very popular hobby there. You know, you have cross country skiis and your dog pulls you. It looks so fun.
You can hike there in winter time with regular shoes, but snowshoes might be a good choice too. Leave a Comment Theme: HikingAddress: College Road
